The Sunday Picture Show... (10-27-2019) . . . (OLD Show Look at the DATE...)

Isn’t that a proto for the 560? The protos for the 186 are all screwed (as I understood). Here they tried out a riveted belt clip.

Nope. Leroy made 10 of these out of 440c during the development of the 186.

Thank you, good to know. But it could be in advance of the following riveted 560, especially because of the numerous complaints concerning the demountable 186.

Happy SPS everyone! Got my first BOTM this week, figured I'd do a nice updated family picture outside but it's been raining all day here

Don't mean to argue, but when the person who built it (Leroy Remer) told me when and why they were built; there isn't a whole lot of room for speculation.

Greg, only questioning, Sir, and only speculations. Did not Phrobis made the prototypes for the 186?

That is correct; Mickey Finn/Phrobis made the 186 prototypes. Leroy tells me he made 10 of these "prototypes". I could have merely assumed that they were 186 prototypes and not 560 prototypes. I don't remember being specific with model number in our conversation, only described the knife to him as a 186/560. Either could make sense: The 186 is a screw together design, but the 560 has no belt clip.

It would make more sense as a 560 the more I think about it. Phrobis owned the 186, and Buck had to solve a user issue without any contract issues.

I'll try to catch up with Leroy again this week and nail it all down. If anyone else has any definitive information, I'd love to hear it and see more examples.

There's another thread here on a similar one, but nothing concrete. https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/all-stainless-buck-186.1085560/

Interesting thread. Thank you Greg. Some more speculations are possible.

The numerous complaints about and returns of the Model 186 resulted in its discontinuation after only 6 months of production in 1986.
Here is the solution to reassembly.

Can you expand on “had to solve a user issue without any contract issues”?

I just got off the phone with Leroy. He tells me that these were in fact prototypes of the 186. They came before any of the titanium handles were made for Mickey Finn/Phrobis.
Said they would either have 110 blades or Custom Shop blades as that's what he had on his bench to use. The 186 wasn't a knife at that time, nor was the 560 of course, so there were no blades with those stamps.
Good stuff!
