This allowed the use of any 110 blade including the old style Selector blades. This modification required the use of tools to disassemble the knife for air travel. The blade could be packed in a check in bag, and the handle and tools could be carried on.
After I figured out how to modify normal blades into Selector blades, I used the Selector platform for my travel knife (no more tools). I put #2X56TPI Helicoil inserts in the Valox handle to anchor a pocket clip. The middle 4 blades were modified by me.

Lot going on down here in coastal NC right now. We moved a week ago, missing in the move is my shoebox full of my old 100 series Buck Knives (my one line, two line, and inverted stamp 118’s, my 105 I bought at APG MD in 1976, etc.). Luckily I did find the Buck 301 my grandma gave me in 1973 and the NIB Buck’s packed in another box. I went deer hunting last week and didn’t have a Buck 118 so used a 110 Folding Hunter I keep in the car and I used my Buck 117 on a deer for the first time; my report - it worked just fine skinning and deboning. Just a tad wider than the 118 but a good hunters knife, however I still prefer the Buck 118 (I have found a 118 D2 still NIB, which I will pull out next if I don’t find my users before I hunt again). We are going back to the old house this evening (only two hours away, unsold, and still has some of our stuff in it) to try and find my Buck Knives. OH

ITE, thanks for the SPS, appreciate you doing this every Sunday. Thanks to all who post the pictures for all of us to enjoy.

This is a 620 that I bought in a collection of other knives, the sheath is not original to the knife. Preston

Guess what Preston.... that IS the correct original sheath for your knife. All the Mates came with that generic looking nylon sheath. I think some were camo with the olive drab 639. /Roger
