The Sunday Picture Show... (12-27-2015)

Thank you Armand for bringing us another chance to see some fantastic Buck Knives and thanks to all who have posted pictures and comments to the SPS this past year. It has been great.

Here is a BCCI 500 Duke with damascus bolsters. I believe there were 4 in this series with damascus bolsters and stag handles. The 500,501,503,and 505.

I wish they would do a 110 and a 112.

This Sunday ritual is such a sweet treat you fellas that National Geographic, Mechanics Illustrated, The History Channel and/or a looping video @ The Buck Factory Museum could proudly present one or more Sunday's terrific content. Yes they could. You betcha. Who has the vending rights to this content I wonder?

Christmas Day for me took place with In-laws from out of town, Son & Daughter-in-law (their home), wife and myself plus three Grandchildren ages girl 6, boys 3 & 1. Nobody carries a knife or scissors besides myself despite gifts of both to everyone over the years. I used the Marksman to cut rope holding a present closed, scissors cut string holding a present closed and I used the Bucklite to trim/whittle the last piece of hardwood and the flashlight to fit into place in a large (65#) put-together train/play table. The morning went like clockwork, kids overjoyed, parents exhausted, grandparents nap-ready. I am treated like an appliance, a can opener sort of: "take it to Grandpa Steve." Or they just say, "Steve, put a light on this or cut this please." They don't ask, "Hey, anyone have a knife, scissors or flashlight?" My Christmas story. I am thankful for every bit of it and for all of you.

The color difference in the handles. I like the darker ones better for my taste.

I had bought this one back when I would go bow hunting, for working on the bow if necessary. Never did have to use it on my bow though. HL

Thank you again ITE for another SPS, The knives just keep getting better.
This year my wife found a 110, 5/5 4 pin and an Alpha Hunter with my birth date in 2008 as the manufacture date, it just had to be added.

This Sundays Sharp Eyed Collector Award goes to Rudderjt. Jack, noticed his WBC 301 and mine were different. My knife has the swell in the center on the wrong side. A look at a dozen 301s shows that mine has the blades on the wrong (not normal) ends.
I will dig the knife out of its hiding place and see what the number is. Good eye Rudderjt.

Jack's is on bottom.......300

I'll come back later today and give a quality report on these two.

JB

Ok, I said I'd be back to do a report on the two drop point Special order 110's currently be offered on the market.

So here goes,

The Good:
These two 110's come with a drop point blade one in BG-42 the other in S30V, the grind line on the blade look identical to my eye's. However, the kick grind is just a bit different (this could just be these knives though, the photo's did not capture what I can see).

The S30V knife comes with Cherry wood laminate with a pewter escutcheon plate, no nail nick and the BG-42 knife comes with Gray wood laminate scales, nail nick, both knives come with Nickle silver frames. These are cool up-graded 110's and worth a look and worth the extra coin for the better steel and drop point blades.

The Bad:
The Cherry wood knife came with a finishing flaw at the bolster lock cut out. The factory missed polishing this area on the knife and you can see tooling marks from the manufacturing process. This is purely cosmetic and will have no affect on the knife's performance (as a collector this QC issue bother's me, not enough to ship back though)

The Gray wood knife also has an issue with the closed blade centering. Again this is just cosmetic and no issue on the knife's performance.

Additional comment:
The Cherry wood knife came with the typical polishing crud pushed deep into the blade pivot making it stiff to open and very gritty. The gray knife however, has none of that crap and is silky smooth to open and close (I have not gotten a new 110 in years that was like this awesome). Both of these knives lock up perfectly and will give a lifetime of hard work and service to the user. I'm happy to have them both and as they were special Christmas gifts from my kids I will cherish them both.
