The Sunday Picture Show... (3-10-2013)

Good looking fillets Matt (and Heath). Heath, I like the thin colored spacers on that stag. Any chance you can show a closeup for detail?

Stumps, the eggs are sort of a dull or dirty white with a lot of brown speckles. I'll try to find out what eggs you saw.

Bert

Stumps,

I'm not sure what eggs you saw, but I'm sure they weren't blue grouse. An interesting thing about blue grouse is their migration pattern. In early fall, when a lot of animals are headed down the mountain, the blue grouse go up. They spend the winter in the mountains and feed almost exclusively on pine and spruce needles. In the spring, when other animals head back up the mountain, the blue grouse head down to the flats for the summer. End of biology lesson.

I would have never bought but I like the Boone and Crockett series and this came up at auction for a good deal.

Wife said she won't be using the grill again.

"Wife said she won't be using the grill again."

Just fire up the grill to a high temperature. We used to have a coyote that came around and licked the grease catch pan below the grill. It wasn't a problem except for the noise early in the morning.

I just looked up the picture. I think we may be talking about the same bird. I remember a local calling it something other than Blue Grouse though. Even though this picture doesn't show it, I remember this egg having a greenish or blueish tint to it.

I also remember being shocked to see such a large egg out there.
