The Sunday Picture Show... (5-21-2017) . . . OLD SHOW LOOK at The DATE...

Wonderful show today, thanks, ITE! Here is an older one, I think Camillus produced, something happened with the deal and they ground off the Buck logo and name on the tang...but not the one on the bolster:rolleyes:. I'm sure someone will know and post. Preston

Here is a 103 made for the Bass Pro Shops fine gun room with stag & ironwood handle with filework on the blade

Pj, I have never seen that grind off before. Thought it might be a end of factory Camillus knife, but why grind off Buck from tang ? Second thought, maybe it is a end of the road knife and the blade was stamped Camillus because the Buck blades were used up. But as far as I am concerned it is still a Buck knife.

Finally got the Bear! This Bear was part of the 2005 Friends of NRA Banquet merchandise package and came with a Buck 192. Yes I did get the knife with it but dang if I couldn't find it, the bear is a little harder to misplace....:)

Concerning the ground off tang. Took me a bit to find it and I know there have been other references. This post was by CJ Buck in 2007.

I have a story for you. My father got a call from the Pres of Camillus, Nilo Miori, back when they were making knives for us. We had rejected knives that did not pass the quality standards and they had piled up somewhat so Nilo had been requested by his board of directors to do something with the rejects. He told my father that he had ground off all the Buck markings and had a guy who would liquidate them at a local swap meet. My father did not like that as folks would know they were Bucks so he offered to buy them all for $1 each. About 3 weeks later a truck showed up with 60,000 knives. My father still laughs about how he did not think to ask how many there were...

As he wondered what to do with all these defaced knives one of our sales reps (Vern Taylor) suggested they be given to missionaries who can get quite a lot done by gifting a knife in the low tech environments they operate in.

We have been giving broken/repaired knives to missionaries ever since. We have some really cool pictures of people wearing nothing but loin cloths with a 119 hanging on it.

View attachment 711102 View attachment 711103 A short course in Mangling 101 (that's not a model #). Take the blade out of your Model 186 Titan and move the pivot bushing to your favorite Selector blade. Now install the Selector blade in your 186 handle.

I did this with my 560 mule some time back. Full serrated selector blade makes it one nasty looking hombre!

Roger, is the bear ceramic?

I didn't modify the handle at all. I have stainless 2-56 threaded barrels I use for this particular one. Since this is my test-mule for different modifications, I'm not terribly concerned about it holding up compared to a sturdier fastener. I like the helicoil idea though and may put it to use if I decide to make this more of a hard user. You'll have to share your source for those with me.

The micarta knives are very nice. This is the set my wife had bought for me when she saw them in a Buck news letter I had left laying around when they where for sell.

She was able to get them in the display box. I need to take pictures of the ones she has been picking up for special gifts to me. The last one is from David Yellowhorse which is a very cool knife. HL

Great story DSS! Glad you found it. The Camillus issue is mentioned in this interview as well.

Thanks for posting the interview link. I found his comments about the poor quality of the [Camillus] contract knives disconcerting considering Buck had a 30+ year relationship with them. I always felt my Camillus knives are pretty good. On the other hand.... they did have 60,000 rejects!! ......

I get my Helicoil tools and inserts from Travers Tool Co.
