I, for one, would like to know more about that knife and it's nailnick.

Looking at it and the others in that photo...it is different in size and placement, not like the others. Just wonder if it was put on(not well done IMHO) by someone other than the factory:confused:. Preston

Preston,

Well, I picked it up on ebay for about $18 plus shipping. When I 1st saw it I didnt realize the little subtleties that it had, I was mostly interested because the pic(which wasnt real good, nor was the item description) appeared to show it to be micarta. Once I got it, I saw it was indeed micarta, it has a 45 degree radius on edges including bolsters and of course the nail nic. There was speculation at 1st that it may have been either an employee mod for his/her own pleasure or perhaps a special request by a favored customer, which was apparently a somewhat common thing at the plant in those days. It is a 1st version 1st variation.

I sent it in for spa treatment back in the spring and had Joe look at it. His conclusion is that the mods were in all likelyhood not factory:( But did commend the placement of the nic and quality of work. So it looks like some quality craftsman did a mod on it. I really like it and is one of the prize bulls of my herd.

Thanks for your interest
Fritz

here is the thread when I first got it

Thanks for the info on your 112 Fritz...always interesting to see other's knives and hear the stories.

I like the older 112s without the nailnick, they open just fine and have a clean look. I can live with or without the radius. You have some great knives, enjoy. Preston

Thanks Preston, I agree on all you said, I'm happy to have this one, I would like to also have the same version in original condition. Although my focus is more on picking up the earlier version 110's. Of course being a poor man, I have to try and steal em off the bay like this one.:D
