The Sunday Picture Show (April 12, 2026)

Moving us to page 2. Buck model 506 with Astronaut
I originally thought looked more like a Sasquatch. It is an Apollo Space Suit. Hamilton Standard (became Hamilton Substrand) was involved with the suits and portable life support systems. It took me awhile to figure that one out. I came across documentation in one of the old newsletters with a list of 505/506 limited editions, by Larry Oden, June 2012. The handles are white linen micarta. The resins have yellowed some with age. The Apollo program ran from 1961 to 1972. Missions 7 thru 17 were crewed. Apollo missions 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17 landed on the moon. Mission 13 was aborted due to an oxygen tank explosion but returned safely. The actual quote was "Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here". The Apollo program has taken 24 men to the moon (some twice) and twelve have walked on the moons surface. addendum: all astronauts in the Apollo program were military test pilots, an exclusively male field at the time.

Just a matter of spending a whole lot of time in the woods and a bit of good fortune...

A white melamine barrel nut 119 and a pinned and plugged 119 that Leroy refurbished recently. I do not have the skill nor the confidence to sharpen the old/collectible blades. Leroy does amazing work at a reasonable cost.

Spectacular, thanks for sharing!

Sorry that I am late to the show but I got back last night from the Oregon Knife Collectors Association show in Eugene Oregon. It was a fun and fantastic two days of hanging out with Buck people and seeing, buying and selling knives. I found several vintage Buck 110's for a fraction of the cost that would be charged on the price inflated auction site. Good times.
