Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. Above all, enjoy the show. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)
On this day in history.... August 22 1851
The schooner America, representing the New York Yacht Club competed against 15 yachts of the Royal Yacht Squadron in the annual 53 mile race around the Isle of Wight. America won handily. The America's Cup match is the oldest international sporting competition, predating even the modern Olympics.
My knife commemorates the 1987 America's Cup. Dennnis Connor piloting Stars & Stripes 87 of the San Diego Yacht club defeated the defending Australians in Kookaburra III. The Australians previous win in 1983 had ended America's 132 year winning streak.

America was one of only three ships commissioned in the U.S. Navy during both the Civil War and World War II. The other two being the USS Constitution and USS Constellation. After a long history and many owners, she was destroyed in 1945, the result of her storage shed collapsing in a snow storm. Originally costing $30,000 to build, fielding a modern America's Cup challenge can cost $300 million. The cost is not without controversy and criticism. Interesting read about America here...
