The Sunday Picture Show (August 24, 2025)

I made it to the Gateway Knife Club Show yesterday, a club I am a Life Member of. Meetings are the 2nd Thursday of every month at the same location. Skyler Stevens was there as BCCI emissary all official looking in his BUCK BCCI shirt & badges. Should have taken a picture. 😁 Larry Oden was in attendance. Spent my money at his table, picked up a nice twin set and copies of the 2nd edition of his book. I met fellow BF member matthewtstock matthewtstock also hanging out at Oden's table.

(Repost from 2023) Another Hawkbill knife for the show. The model 810 TLC knife (Tile, Linoleum, Carpet). New in 1992 and can be found in the general catalog until replaced in 2001 by the model 820 with a black Kraton handle. I don't think I've ever seen an 820 (in the wild). Provided in a number of variations, boxed, clam, with and without sheath, Snap-On Red, and a Work Man, possibly others? The 1991 Special Projects list shows 90 made for Snap-On with a red handle and "electro etched" blade, I assume that to be the Snap-On logo. Mine does not have the electro etched logo, overrun perhaps. The second image is the Workman version with the standard gray handle. The last image is from the 1992 general catalog. Note that mbkr mbkr posted an image of one with a black handle, #19 above.

As another data point, the black handled one I posted above has a date code of 2000, so near the end of the run.

Today is National Knife Day!!! How did I miss that......
.

The date that was chosen for observing National Knife Day seems to be associated with the Bowie Knife. It was on August 24, 1838, that a letter was written by Rezin Bowie, the brother of the knife's namesake, claiming that he (and not his brother) was the actual creator of the knife and deserved credit for it.
.

The Gateway show is a gem. Brian Hugh (BCCI sec/board member) was also in attendance. Much like Larry & Roger, a knowledgeable and reserved feller who is also an extremely talented knife customizer. It was a pleasure to meet a few of our members. Another I picked up from Mr. Oden...........

Roger...what do you think you're running here, NFL? Bye week, WTH?!? Just teasing, thanks for all you do, have done and will do? Thanks also to all who post photos and comment.
I haven't post this 110 in a while. Bought from Sierra Trading Post, ICR if it was a SFO or close-out from another vendor.IMG_0346.jpeg

Hi to All of the Buck Nut's,

Thank you Roger for hosting this wonderful event each week. Also, thank you to all who post photos or add to the conversations. Happy National Knife Day!

Some Bowies for 8/24, such a fantastic date indeed (if you know what I mean).

Can't let the show close out without displaying a Bowie for National Knife Day.
Buck Crown Stag 905 over an Iron Mountain Stinger Bowie
** I think there is some minor connection between Iron Mountain and Buck but have never figured it out completely.
There are look alike knives with the Beaver label, I believe it is the result of a partnership breakup.

I remember seeing one that said, snap on on the handle, I believe... I wish I would have bought one... They were on the bay for a few months... Many moons ago.... Good, show everyone....
