Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others

August 27, 1883 — The biggest explosion the world has ever known
Krakatoa.png

On this date, 140 years ago, the volcano Krakatoa erupted violently.
Krakatoa.Location.jpg

Interesting Krakatoa facts.
*estimated 13,000 times greater than Hiroshima A-bomb
*although the August 27th eruption was the most violent, the eruptions lasted from May to October
*the sound of the eruption was heard 3,000 miles away
*estimated 5 cubic miles of material ejected with ash reaching a height of 50 miles
*estimated 36,400 deaths, most caused by the deadly tidal waves /tsunamis
*120' high tidal wave travelling 300 mph hit nearby islands and reached 15 miles inland on JAVA
*dust in the atmosphere changed global climate by a few degrees
*a new volcanic island Anak Krakatau – Indonesian for “Child of Krakatoa” appeared in 1927
*2018 eruption of Anak Krakatau caused a 43' tidal wave
*1968 disaster movie "Krakatoa, West of Java" was renamed simply "Volcano" because Krakatoa is actually East of Java.
*The eruption and aftermath is known about in great detail because of the work of Dutch geologist Rogier Verbeek who lived in Java
*The study of Krakatoa was the beginning of modern volcanology

Nutin fancy this week. A Buck 119 Special I found at the knife show today (Saturday). I would place this in the '62-'63 time frame. Pinned construction and a keeper strap sheath. Too bad the keeper strap is torn. Gateway Area Knife Club annual show. 3 rooms of knives. There were two I would really like to have but my wallet did a butt clench. Couldn't come home empty handed and so this 119 was elected.

Roger, thank you for another Sunday Picture show. Thanks also to all who post photos and comment. Interesting topic today. I can't imagine the power and force that that volcanic eruption must have had.
Older and newer 119s and their sheaths for the show. I sure like the smooth lines of the blade grind on older 100 series, like yours especially...

I must have missed you Rog. I was in and out grabbed this leather barrel nut pair. He couldn’t find the sheaths but he had these two double snap scaler sheaths in boxes with the paperwork and receipts. I happily took them to make up for it. Was out the door for $120.
