The Sunday Picture Show (December 22nd, 2024)

Thanks Roger for this Sunday Picture Show, I'm old enough to remember the Chipmunks bursting on the scene in '58. I think I have a Chipmunks album somewhere I'll see if I can find it.
Here's a place holder...

Thank you Roger for the History lesson and doing the Sunday Picture Show. This is a take apart Aluminum Club Knife to which I added a pocket clip and an Ion Fusion (Buckcote) blade. The TiN (Titanium Nitride) coating has an HRC of 82. The chisel sharpening exposes the coating on the micro edge and gives an edge geometry that is twice as acute as a normal edge (very slicey). In use the blade wears away in preference to the coating, making the knife self sharpening. I also modified the blade to work in old Selector handles.

Merry Christmas to All the Buck Nuts,

Well another year has flown past at a record pace at least IMO. Hope each of you are well & going to spend this holiday with family and friend's. Roger, Sir thank you for your dedication to hosting the SPS (always look forward to it) and thanks for the History bite on the Chipmunks. I will introduce my 3 year old Grandson to them when I see him next week! Also, thanks to all who post to these shows.

Here is yet another set of old photos of 103s, I do have a soft spot for them.

Is that smooth purple bone? Wow! What year is that one?
Thanks Dave. Yes, its smooth bone. It was an SFO for SMKW back in 2017. There were three colors: purple, red and I think pink, but don't hold me to that one. By the time I purchased this one, the red was sold out or I'd probably bought one of those. Once I received the knife, I was glad I had the purple. Its quite pretty in person.

Those were a Smoky Mountain Knife Works issue in 2017. Offered in Blue, Red, Pink, and Purple. There was also a run of 4 with drop point blades for a total of 8 112's with bone handles and nickel silver Script Buck inlays. My notes say there were 150 each of the drop points, not sure about the other run. Notice the drop points had an anvil tang stamp and a conventional tang stamp with 2017 date code on the other set. Some day I need to do some group photos of the 2 sets.

mbkr mbkr takes prettier pictures than I do.
