The Sunday Picture Show (February 5, 2023)

i think ya know im not a fan but in case ya arent heckling me.......

I'm not a fan of it. this was the buck bf forum knife skblades had Buck make. for some reasons, everyone here picked d2 over the other choices. I was collecting these 104s for awhile, so had to have one.

it's a hard steel to get sharp....it's holds an edge decently but for the time it take to put an edge back on it, it's not that great. does better with a toothy edge than a polished one. it's toughness isn't great.....and it's corrosion resistance is okay. as it's not a stainless, but very close chromium wise.

for a knife this size d2 is fine, long as hard batonning isnt happening or really hammering on it. on a bigger blade there is better choices with better toughness.

on a 119 I prefer 5160, 3v, 420hc, s30v. in that order.

I have a d2 heritage and it's fine if it's used as a knife to cut and slice and whittle etc...not a pry bar etc.
Thanks for the info. I wasn’t heckling you. Must have slipped my mind about your thoughts about it. Have a good rest of your Sunday.

Used to have a lot of these. Just the 3 now! Great show everyone!

This is a repost from 2021
For this weeks show I have the model 170 HTA-I and 175 HTA-II. The smaller 170 sports a 2.5" blade and the 175 is 3". I was never fully sure but I believe "HTA" stood for High Tech Aluminum (it does). I took a look in the catalogs and they first appear in the 1998 addendum. Not around very long, the 170 lasts until 2002 and the 175 is last seen in the 2003 catalog. I have a pretty good sub collection of them, I dont show them all but hopefully a good selection to wet your appetite to find some for yourselves. There are a bunch out there to find. Available in a wide variety of colors and wonderful images. Many of the wildlife images were about the year 2000 in a quantity of 2000 so the chances of finding them is good. They came in a variety of boxes. Standard cardboard, black 2pc LE, and nice form fitting wood. Not shown is the model 176 in ATS-34. It came in two handles, carbon fiber and gold. Another good one to find would be the 175 with inlet colored stones.

STEELHEADBULLY STEELHEADBULLY The blade shape on the Wild Life scene 175 is very different than the others.
Now I'm gonna have to go look.
edit: I looked at the 2002 catalog, they were like that and I have some. Seems to be the same 3" blade as the 450 Protege, a "modified clip".
The Fish Scale is a variation I'm pretty sure I've not seen either with the blue dots.
Stuff ends up in drawers etc and I forget sometimes what I have.

Hi All,

What a fantastic show you have going today. Thank you Roger for hosting and giving us all a bit of history to reflect on. Also, thanks to each of you who takes the time to post a photo or add to the conversation.

How about a Remington contracted by Buck
