The September 11 attacks, commonly known as 9/11, were four coordinated suicide terrorist attacks carried out by the militant Islamic extremist network al-Qaeda against the United States. On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists—directed by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden—hijacked four commercial airliners mid-flight while traveling from the northeastern US. Today, September 11th, 2022 marks the 21st anniversary of the September 11 attacks. I'm sure the rest of you, like myself remember exactly where you were that day. I was at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri performing a safety inspection. I stood disbelieving as I watched the event unfold on the television in the hospital lobby. People were panicking and rushing the gas stations. I had trouble finding enough gas to make it back to St. Louis.

September 11th is officially designated as Patriot Day, a national day of mourning in rememberance of those killed in the attacks. The flag is flown at half mast on all US government buildings worldwide. It is not an official Federal Holiday as government offices, schools, and businesses remain open.

Buck issued a commemorative knife for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) It can be found on the 2002 Special Projects list as 110SP41. Cherry handle with a laser etched image and an American flag cutout on the blade. A faux marble display box with a colored lid etching makes it a special offering. The number issued is listed as 1,257. There is a second Special Projects listing the following year, 2003. 110SP49. I believe it to be the same knife, issued with a sheath instead of the display box. No quantity is listed

(this is not my knife or image, swiped from the web)

I do not have a 9/11 commemorative 110 in my collection. So in honor of this Patriot Day I have a Buck 110 with a patriotic theme. These were a web special offering for the 4th of July, 2020. The handle is ebony and the flag theme on the blade is pad printed. (inked). I believe the issue was 750 (I'll have to check on that tomorrow)

I don’t have a 9-11 Commemorative by Buck Knives (or anyone else) to show - wish I did. I did look for and buy an OIF Commemorative (the military result of 9-11) when I returned in 2003 but it’s a Case. Carrying this Buck 345 Vantage all weekend, brought it to cut bait, but the fresh shrimp was small, so I fished with whole shrimp. OH

Thanks for another SPS Roger. I can't believe it's been 21 years. Some of the images are still imprinted in my brain, probably always will be. I hope the families that were affected by this and lost loved ones can find some closure and peace. A big thanks also needs to go to all the First Responders who answered the call and all of the medical facilities and doctors who handled all the injured. Let's not forget all the construction workers that helped clean up the site and rebuild and make it what it is today. God bless the USA.

Thanks to Roger for another amazing SPS and everyone who posted their beautiful knives. I am moved each Sunday to see these knives I never knew existed.
I relived the events of 911 yesterday evening while watching a few documentaries and I was glad to see Buck put out a knife comemberating the event.
Roger, I hope you and all who want one can obtain one of those comemberative knives.

For years KathyJo and I gave our Band 'Katillac Jack' a USA Buck for Christmas..When this one came out as a Web special it was perfect! I found Kathy's she had put away a month ago. She liked to carry a small Buck in her purse but most of the time she just asked to use mine if she needed something cut.20220707_115548.jpg

Thanks for hosting the SPS again Roger

JFK was assassinated when I was three years old. When I was 11 or 12, I remember people saying they remembered where they were when they heard the news. I was puzzled as to how anybody could remember their specific location, and what they were doing, on a day that seemed like ancient history. Forgot all about that until 9/11. After that, I understood. I'll always know where I was when I heard about the attacks. I was in Papa Joe's restaurant in Lincoln, Missouri having breakfast. Once it became apparent that multiple planes had crashed, my first utterance was, "We're at war."

Its good to remember this day, the heroes that went in, the folks in the buildings and on the planes just going about their business, and unfortunately, the hatred that brought it about.

I don't have any commemorative or patriotic themed Bucks, so I'll post this Slim 112 carbon fiber because its pretty sweetie.gif
