The Sunday Picture Show (July 23rd, 2023)

Where are these pictures from?
Neal
Out of respect for the people that live there, I choose not to disclose that on social media. Let's just say that's its a place that is dear to my heart and owns some of my earliest memories. Very old and beautiful. It's oldest residents have been resisting change for a couple of decades, but they're losing ground as of late...

New hat, new boots, new knife - what more do you want, egg in your beer?

Care to share brand of hat? Looks comfortable.

I would guess it belonged to a guy named Barthelemy and he had the nickname batman. Bartman may be a reference to an early Simpsons character. I would guess they went to HS/ College/ Military in the early 90s. Not much online for jardin. Someone who went to Columbia? Last 4 of a social?
I first thought Jardin Bathelemy with nickname of "Bartman". Not sure on numbers. Cool knife.

The hat is an Akubra Balmoral from Australia.
I've had two bouts of skin cancer and I like hats, anyway.
I asked the guys over on the fedora lounge for a good Summer hat and this was their recommendation.
They were right.

If anyone is still looking at this, I just received a Stetson straw hat in the mail today.
It is a step or two down from the Akubra, more like a wear it on a riding mower type hat.
Cloth and foam sweatband, straw that they shot with clear shellac. Lighter and probably cooler but it is a cheaper hat in more ways than one.
Hope this helps.

You're welcome.
This one here is good, too.

It has the cloth sweatband so that's a negative but it's not a super stiff straw hat and it has UV blocking sections which is what I want for skin cancer.
A quick shot of hair spray should firm it up some if it gets too floppy.
This isn't in the same league as the Akubra but when it's super hot out, I go for this Stetson Airway Vented Panama:

Just so you know, the straw is woven is Ecuador and then shipped to Mexico where it's made into a hat.
Stetson itself ceased as an actual manufacturer when the factory in Philadelphia closed in the 1970s.
One company based in NYC bought up all the defunct hat brands and brought the names back with straw made in Mexico, felt made in Texas.

An interesting history but all the records got tossed when the factory closed.
