Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. Above all, enjoy the show. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

On this Day, March 1st, 1917, the Zimmermann Telegram, was made public in the American news media.
Zimmermann was the German Foreign Secretary and in January 1917 he sent a telegram to his counterpart in Mexico seeking to incite a war between Mexico and the United States. The telegram was intercepted by British Intelligence and decoded with the help of a previously captured code book. Germany knew that America's entry into WWI was inevitable. Although officially neutral, the U.S. was heavily supplying aid to Europe. If Mexico went to war against the United States, U.S. military resources would be tied up at home limiting aid to Europe. In return Germany promised financial & military aid as well as assisting Mexico in reclaiming territories in the Southwest U.S. previously ceded in the 19th century. The political situation in Mexico was complex but with an inferior military knew that ultimately war with the U.S. would be unwinnable. There was outrage over the Telegram and that combined with renewed German Submarine attacks on shipping prompted President Wilson to ask Congress for a Declaration of War on April 2nd which was formally declared April 6th.
translated telegram
On February 1 we intend to begin submarine warfare without restriction. In spite of this it is our intention to endeavour to keep the United States neutral. If this attempt is not successful, we propose an alliance on the following basis with Mexico:

That we shall make war together and together make peace; we shall give general financial support, and it is understood that Mexico is to reconquer her lost territory of New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. The details are left to you for settlement.

You are instructed to inform the President of Mexico of the above in the greatest confidence as soon as it is certain that there will be an outbreak of war with the United States, and suggest that the President of Mexico shall on his own initiative communicate with Japan suggesting the latter's adherence at once to this plan, and at the same time offer to mediate between Germany and Japan.

Please call to the attention of the President of Mexico that the employment of ruthless submarine warfare now promises to compel England to make peace in a few months. Acknowledge Receipt.

Zimmerman.

The 306 Duets were in the catalog for 1 year only, 2011. They were available in 4 handle materials, black sawcut, gray dymondwood, yellow and pink delrin. They were available in both box and clam pack. There must not have been very many sold because I never see them for sale today. Like the 305 Clipper sold in the early 90's, they were both based on the 305 Lancer.

Happy SPS

Lazy Sunday pic taken from my La-Z-Boy :) A snack while watching Indy Car on the road course at St. Pete 🏎️

I bought this new version 301 because it was red. Seriously, I don't need much of an excuse. Ok, I don't need any excuse 😄
As discussed in another, dedicated, thread about the new 301/303's, it had some problems. Primarily that the spey couldn't be opened without opening the sheepsfoot first. Others sent theirs in and Buck fixed them  I took a diamond hone to mine and now it works OK. This one has been next to my La-Z-Boy and gets used frequently for light duty. I like the plastic handle, It has a nice feel to it. Not too slick.

I was not paying attention to the date, otherwise I would have probably opened with a 301 for the March 1st SPS.
Here is an oddball.

Camillus/Buck 301 Stockman with Colonel Coon blade. Tennessee Knife Works (c.1978-1988) sourced parts from both Camillus and Colonial. The knife is either a Camillus employee's idea of a joke or the blade accidentally found its way into the wrong bin. SMKW acquired/registered the defunct Colonel Coon trademark in 2006.

Very, very cool  I never knew that Colonel Coon sourced blades from Camillus when it was run by Adrian Harris and "Made in Tennessee by Tennesseans". That's a rare 301 for sure 🤩:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Camillus must have done that a lot. I have a couple of Camillus' that have "Western" stamped blades. Waste not want not :)
