The rubber used is called Kraton. It was developed by Shell I believe in the 50's. Buck also used it on the Fillet knives as well as the Moderna line of kitchen cutlery. The property of Kraton which makes it good for a knife handle is that unlike other rubbers that get slippery when wet, Kraton does not. I have seen some reports that the Kraton handles that have seen very hard use can get a little loose on the tang.If that’s the soft rubber handle like on my 619 i wouldn’t dream of changing it. The most comfortable handle i’ve ever had the pleasure of grasping.
Maybe we can discuss how your 639 ends up in my grasp as well?
Thankyou for the compliment. I did notice the discrepancy of descriptions on SP list. I refer to the list constantly and use it for reference. This list was compiled by Richard Matheny, Larry Oden and Joe Houser. I am very thankful for their time and effort. Sometimes the list has some variations that just cannot be explained. Both these knives are very rare. I believe 110Dave has the Skyler knife. Gary Hawk was a world famous water color artist from Iolo, Kansas. His specialty was western, cowboy, and wildlife scenes. He has been invited to the White House several times to receive honors.C Chilebrown Wow! I assume those two 110's are Gary Hawk's. Correct? Really special and rare.... and you have both! Interestingly the SP list says the gold etch had a stag handle and the black etch a N/S frame. Skyler showed a gold etch one in the past and it did not have a stag handle either.
You always display some really nice knives on the show and you should consider sharing some information about them.
Nice hat. Stetson?
I wish. Twister. Not sure why but my local western store has the Stetsons on order now for many months but not getting any. Covid? Supply chain? Employee shortages? Who knows?Nice hat. Stetson?
that's just fantastic there. one ya built for yourself or a customer?

I was in an A&W for lunch the other day with the wife and a guy with his family sat down at a nearby table with a Buck fixed blade on the belt. Had a brief chat, was a 639, he didn't know anything about it other than it was his dads.
I have sold a couple, but I do it as a hobby. This is #2 shown and I am working on #20 & #21 (that actually are for a fee for someone, not Buck's however). Thanks for the likes! Please note I am wanting to buy a Buck 119 Master Series, please PM. Take care, Larrythat's just fantastic there. one ya built for yourself or a customer?
