Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. Above all, enjoy the show. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

For show and tell this week I have a Buck model 188 M9 bayonet. Found this in a militaria store. Missing is the Bianchi belt clip. This one, marked with both Buck and Phrobis is a commercial retail version and was in the Buck catalog from 1987 to 1997. Notice the Phrobis Dolphin logo on the backside under the stone. About 42,000 were sold retail, 14,000 of which were black oxide. Buck made about 300,000 of these for the US military as a subcontractor for Phrobis III. The military versions only have the Phrobis marking.

Of course it needs to have it's 184 partner shown.

And the 639 Fieldmate cousin.

I wish Buck would do a re-release of the 639, with better handle material. I've been tempted many times to do a re-handle myself, but thought better of it. Since I don't know what the tang looks like under the Kraton, I have no idea about the feasibility of a DIY project and don't want to muck up a knife in unused condition.

Custom 188 with 184 Copper Guard/Pins and Sambar Stag.
And you failed to mention the Australian "Broad Arrow" Department of Defense logo.
Buck filled a contract to Austrailia for about 20,000 bayonets.
There were over runs with the Austrailian marking that made it into the US retail market.
Buck did a black oxide finish on 100 of them, I've got one somewhere.
What a special knife, thanks for sharing.

I was aware it was the Australian "Broad Arrow", but did not know the entire story. Thanks for sharing that information.
