The Sunday Picture Show (November 16th, 2025)

Please tell me about your Aurum Caribeau knife. Do you know who did the custom? Where did you find it? The reason I ask is because this was the hardest Aurum deep etch for me to find. I only have a replica and still have never seen a picture of this etch besides yours.

Hi Paul,

The only thing I know about this Caribuo Deep Etch is it was owned by Bruce Dollinger, I bought it from the large aucton site. It came with no box or paperwork, so I know nothing about it's origin.

Those deep black etched knives were done by Aurum etchings in the late 1970's. There are over 20 of them spread across the
models 110,112, 501, 401, and 402. Available individually and some in "game sets" with a fancy walnut box and multiple models.
Do not appear in the regular catalog and the SP list does not indicate if they were marketed thru someone.

addendum: check out the 1978 and 1979 Special Projects Listings. I know I have at least 1 of the game sets, if only I ever got organized.

I think you delight in confusing me. So, is it an unfinished President's Tour knife and not a build out from leftover parts even though it has a build out number? That's a fine line of distinction, and I thought worrying about white oak or red oak was picky.

I think it's a build-out from left over parts from the President's Tour knife. I think that happens a lot. I have a build out 112 with the blue G10 that was released shortly after the blue G10 BOTM, for example.

Greetings,
There were some BOTM (April 2025) Compadre in Magnacut.
Yes, Scales are removable.
Removing Cerakote Cobalt coating might need abrasive blasting and later polishing, to get an overall uniform finish. However, best would be to ask an expert in this regard.

Thanks.

Arian29 Arian29 that Compadre is growing on me. All the knives are unique and beautiful.
I have a few questions. Are all Compadries 5160? Also, can the scales be removed? Finally, can the coating be removed? I dislike painted blades if I'll be using them.

I am very familiar and have all the 110's. It is just the Caribou that was elusive and I only know of myself and jb470 that have the blade. They just do not show up for sale or shown.

C Chilebrown Do you know if the were marketed by Buck or a project for someone else?
I am not real sure but there is a great article here on the Forum from August 23, 2010 Thread "Aurum Etchings Article & Relationship with Buck" by Timstools. I do not know if this link will work
