At one time Henry Ford attempted to control every aspect of car manufacture from rubber plants in Brazil to forests in Michigan's U.P. Ultimately the rubber plantation Fordlandia" failed, and a couple of thousand acres of timber was donated to Michigan Technological University (my alma mater) which gave rise to one of two excellent forestry schools in Michigan.

He also sent in Henry Bennet and his goon squad, aka "the Ford Service Department" to beat up Walter Reuther and other UAW officials. Unfortunately for Ford, there were several reporters and photographers in attendance and it ultimately resulted in Ford being forced to accept the UAW.

Houghton MI is a nice town!
That whole area is beautiful.
