The Sunday Picture Show (October 27, 2024)

I stopped by an antique store last week and found this “vintage” Buck 212 Fixed Ranger. I am not sure how a knife made in 2019 is vintage, but I did not argue with them. The seller had a nice little collection of other Bucks. I picked up this 650 Nighthawk from 1994 also. I am kicking myself for not buying the 639 Fieldmate that was for sale, but it had quite a bit of wear on it.

Concerning the Nighthawk, what is the purpose of this knife? The only use I can think of is if I used dogs to hunt hogs and needed to dispatch a pig once caught. I do not see it as a “survival knife” although I am sure it would be up to any task. I guess it was a tactical knife before tactical became a cool buzzword. The 650 is an impressive, hefty chunk of steel at 6.5” long and 0.23” thick.

I thought it was made to be some kind of combat type knife. thick stock hard to break easily.....not a hunting knife and not really good at much, but I do like them.....

TK.CO.135.INF.
...and the winner is Tank
I found a listing for military jargon abbreviations.
That brings up the question, would Army Infantry have a Tank Company?

T
TF - task force
(tel) - telephone
Tr or Trp - troop
tk or tks - tank(s)
trk or trks - truck(s)
td - tank destroyer or temporary duty
temp - temporary
tng - training
trfd - transfered

Another Buck knife for content.
This 529 c.1988 also arrived in my mail box yesterday. I believe the image is a Blue Whale, the largest of all mammals.
The 529's were the BuckSkin series. The similar 527 Treasury series did have an Ivory Micarta version but I'm not sure that is the material of this handle. The image does not appear scrimmed. I wonder how applied.

I rounded up my meager Buck collection. The crowning jewel is my 110 that I have too much money in. I wanted a 110 with silver bolsters , stag and a 5160 blade. Leroy didn't have any silver bolsters and Buck didn't have any 5160.
So I went thru the Buck Custom Shop. They built me one with the silver hardware and an S30V blade.
I had them send that to Leroy who traded me my S30V for his 5160 even up. Leroy also put the Elk slabs on it. I can thank eveled eveled for the sheath witch is my favorite Buck 110 sheath.
I think I already posted this with its pedigree before. :)
