The Sunday Picture Show (October 29, 2023)

I deleted Facebook 3 years ago. It exists as a place for stupid people to spread their ideas. Haven't been on IG in over a year. Deleted youtube app from my phone about a month ago. BCCI doing itself a major injury by becoming so dependent on a dying platform. My 23 year old hasn't had a fb since middle school and my 17 yo says Facebook is for grandparents. It is a true shame that bcci is doing this. Social media in general is a dying fad. They have made their own website useless, as there is only sporadic travel on it. Two great platforms between here and their own site, and they're trying to get us to go to a 3rd place. Not smart if you care about collecting.

Turned to the Dark Side. Was one of the anti-BCCI Facebook guys like myself. Apparently the FB side somehow convinces people to abandon everything else. I stopped sending him Christmas cards when he stopped returning my calls. Pitty... he was a good dude.
Who else have we lost to FB? Looper, Haebbie, and Steelhead... who else?
Definitely didn't lose me to Facebook, I posted there a couple times when it started 3-4 years back, but really don't go on there anymore. I do try to look at the SPS most weeks. I always say to myself I'm going to post on it, but then the day gets away from me. My life in the past year or two has been filled with ups and downs and seems to be constantly changing. I guess that's life. I haven't bought a new Buck since the August BOTM. Not much of what I like pops up anymore, and when it does, I usually opt to buy a case or two of bourbon instead. I will try to be less distant on the Forum in the future. Hope all of my Buck brothers are doing well!

"Social media is a dying fad" ??? I think if you could look 20 years into the future you would see that social media in 2023 is in it's infancy. It will grow, change, and morph into platforms that we have trouble conceiving, but die? Not hardly

My FB was deleted some time ago also. I still have an IG, but other than a few stories, have not posted anything in a couple of years. I periodically check YT, but not with any great duration or frequency.

I wonder if one of the issues with updating the BCCI web site is that it may not be convenient for them. I don't know their particulars, but not all web sites are designed for sufficient ease of use for all parties. If that is the issue, perhaps BCCI could have a subforum here on BF under the Buck forum. It would be easy for them to post to and interact with their members and it is also directly related to a supporting manufacturer. (I'm not sure if that usage would be included or cost extra.)

it seems silly to me that bcci uses Facebook at all. seeing how they have their own website and forum. now their website software is old and cumbersome, but regardless.....they should upgrade and keep it all in house.

I should clear the air.....im not a Facebook fan.....I have no Facebook account. never have and never will.

Here we are on bladeforums which is a social media site saying how worthless social media are.

Bert
I just don't care for Facebook and various other social media setups. I prefer forums for hobbies. I don't hate social media, it's just not for me. I also dont care if others like it......

here I click on what I want. no algorithm games are being played to influence what I see and read or watch etc. it's an apples to oranges comparison.

Glad you haven't turned Mike! I'm just down the road if there's anything I can do to help!

I cancelled my BCCI membership. I was paying annual so they get more of my money than the cheaper-in-the-long-run life membership.

I got to thinking.... where does all that dues money go? They're definitely not putting it into their only real asset, their web site. That's a question all paying members should be asking themselves! If they've abandoned their only asset for FB, all officers are volunteers, and they do regular find raising knives, what are they spending the money on??? Where's that money going?

Caveat Emptor!

End rant...

seeing how they have their own website and forum.
I didn't even know (or remember) they had a forum. So, I never visited it. Now that I have visited it, I'm not likely to visit again or at least not very often. There is too little traffic to make the special trip to open the site, log in, navigate to the forum, only to find there isn't anything new. It's not worth the trouble especially when so much relevant to BCCI gets posted here anyway.

Regardless of what we think, the site that the BCCI officers chose to use will be the site that gets the attention.

The officers make the announcements, annual knife info, etc.
So if you want current updates, that's where you're going to get it. Wherever they are at and posting such info.

I gleen as much info as I can from here and the BCCI site.
I sorta agree with mt_pokt on the issue of media site use.

I have no desire to be on facebook.
The folks I know personally that are active there, are reason enough to not participate.
No thanks.
😒😬🙁

my sister asked me why I won't get back on fb. I told her I don't need to see a constant list of the opinions of people I hadn't had a coffee or beer with since high school. The people who are important to me exist in my real life. At least the people here stick to talking about and post pics of knives. Social media is not a tool for the user. It most certainly is a tool for politicians, media and sales people. People are catching on to that. Parents are worried about screen time. People know that big companies have interfered with politics through social media. People are worried about depression and mental health effects caused by social media. People are sick of the algorythims and sales tactics used by "entertainment" companies. Social media as we know it is a fad and thankfully it is dying.

Sorry DeSotoSky DeSotoSky . This should be it's own thread.

Happy Halloween!
