Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

View of the Execution Site of Soviet Citizens at Babi Yar in 1941

On this Day, September 29th--30th, 1941. Massacre at Babyn (Babi) Yar
In September 1941, German forces invading the Soviet Union took the city of Kyiv, in what is now the nation of Ukraine, and soon afterward perpetrated one of the most horrific acts of genocide in history. The city had a large Jewish population and over 100,000 who were able had already fled, but many women, children, and elderly were unable. Time bombs left by retreating Soviet forces had exploded, killing several Nazis. Blaming the incidents on the Jews gave the Nazis the excuse they needed to justify retaliation. On September 29, they forced much of Kyiv’s Jewish population to go to Babi Yar, also known as Babyn Yar, a ravine located just outside the city .

All [Jews] of the city of Kyiv and [nearby areas] must appear on Monday, September 29, by 8 o'clock in the morning at the corner of Mel'nikova and
Dorohozhytska streets (near the Viis'kove cemetery). Bring documents, money and valuables, and also warm clothing, linen, etc. Any [Jews] who do not follow this order and are found elsewhere will be shot. — Order posted in Kyiv in Russian, on or around 26 September 1941.

There was a widespread belief they were to be relocated but by the time the truth was realized, the trap was set and it was too late. They were systematically stripped of their documents, valuables, and clothing. They were taken in groups into the ravine and shot with machine guns. The SS later reported to headquarters in Berlin, that 33,771 Jews were executed over two days. (note: 29 known survivors) During the Nazi occupation of Kyiv between 1941 and 1943 it is estimated that between 100,000 and 150,000 Soviet citizens, mostly Jewish, were executed in the Babi Yar ravine. Before the USSR recaptured Kyiv in late 1943, the Nazis tried to hide the evidence of what had happened at Babi Yar, Soviet prisoners of war were forced to exhume and cremate the corpses there. The Nazis then killed them, trying to remove all of the last witnesses. In all, nearly 1.5 million Soviet citizens, primarily Jews, were murdered between 1941 and 1944. Almost 80 percent of them were shot.

Paul Blobel, the overall commander of the SS unit responsible for the massacre, was sentenced to death at the Nuremberg Trials as were others at both Nuremberg and in Soviet military tribunals.

Complex story, I try to keep these short, interesting, and generally related to American history but some events need telling. The Wiki article is more detailed.

This week, my opening is with some 402 Akonuas.
(probably all repeats).

Fancy engraved 492 Akonua. Clean, simple, and classy.

wonderboy1377s wonderboy1377s Just WOW!!!
The box is newer but looks to be from the original Custom Shop.
Is that correct?

The coa that came with it said that it was at one point in the Buck archives . That’s why it has a newer box. It didn’t mention the original custom shop specifically but it definitely seems like it would have been made there. The horn looks even better in person. It really is a fantastic knife.

I believe 2 handle pins was generally associated with the original Custom Shop. Production knives had 3.
That is a really special knife :thumbsup: Thanks for sharing it. That goes for all other players here on the SPS.
Thank you to everyone who help me keep this tradition alive.
