The Sunday Picture Show (September 29, 2024)

Moving us to page 2. First year 402 Akonua c.1972. The Kalinga was designed by Frank Buck and Al Buck designed the Akonua to appeal to those who found the Kalinga blade curve a little too extreme. Inverted tang stamp is a tough find on the Akonua because it was introduced just before the tang markings changed to upright. Inverted Kalingas are easier to find as they were introduced a few years earlier in 1970.

"Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it". - George Santayana

Thank you for the history lesson, Roger. And thank you to all who do their part to make this show great!

No Akonuas in my collection, yet. Today I want to share my much loved 055. Nothing fancy, but a great little knife that has class.

There were 4 knives based on the 402 Akonua with the Idaho Cutout.
The original and first was the Dealer Only knife I show above.
Then there were three different buildouts.
402BO had a black palmwood handle and was sold at the BCCI 25th event.
The last two I think were sold as web specials.
0402BO1 was similar to BO2 except it had micarta inserts instead of the fret material.
0402BO2. Solid rosewood handle, not Dymondwood, with guitar fret type inserts and a nickel silver guard.

I'm sure they will be very pleased by your gifts. The 55 is not only a sturdy (for its size) and useful tool, it is also very "pocketable". I'm happy that my post helped you make your decision.

Here is a picture of 402BO Akonua with Palmwood handle. 1 of 20, documented on 2013 SP list.
My notes say this was sold at the 25th BCCI event.
I found this picture in my file but do not know where I got it.
I apologize in advance if I ripped off someone here.
