Iv had the Super Hawk for long enough to form a few oppinions of it and just how good this knife is.

I think its my favorite Spyderco, just now :p

Here is a few pics and some words

The knife as a whole just looks great IMO.
the handle and blade are just right in proportions, just the right size and has great materials to boot.
V-10 is a steel i like alot, takes and keeps a good edge and has good stain resistance, even here in Taiwan where its stupid humid for most of the year.
Carbon fiber scales are always a good thing and I like the rough texture on this knife over the smother scales on the Cali or CF Harpy.

The "hawk bill" blade while subtle still has enough of a hook to effectivly tear in to a hoast of things and has a nice curve thats pleasing to the eye.
It is still good for stabbing though and has fairly good penetrating power for the blade shape and enough length to get most things done while not being too big a folder.

The open spine set up over the full back spacer on the lock backs like the Manix or the Chinook makes a nice light knife that is good for most things like SD as well as a good few other tasks.

The lock is obviously the "compression lock" and a great lock it is too.
Im not a huge fan of liner locks so im glad this was the choice made for the Super hawk.
The lock allows for nice smooth opening and closing with one hand as well as being able to flick the knife open and closed with a slight wrist flick for use in the forward and reverse grips.
I find the lock on the Super Hawk to be much smoother than the lock on my Para Milis as well.

The handle ergos are spot on IMO, I dont find any hot spots even with the open frame design.
The Chinook esk handle makes for a good secure grip in a variety of positions making the knife feel good and solid as well as comfortable.
The CF scales probably help keep the weight down as well as looking and feeling great.

There is a few nice touches on this knife.
The smooth finger choil is one of them. While i dont mind and quite like jimping on choils and thumb ramps the smoothe lines on this knife work really well.
The blade fits and lines up in the handle well in the open and closed position.
No protruding tang or any bits sticking out here or there.

The only thing i can mention as a negative is the knife is ~2" wide in the closed position so takes up a good bit of pocket space. This is always the case with knives like this though and is not really a problem any way.

The over all fit and finish are top notch on this knife.
I was looking forwad to it coming out back when I first saw it and I have not been dissapointed in any way.

Go get one :D:thumbup:

That looks amazing. Unfortunately I dont have the $ for that guy, so I'll be getting the Byrd Crossbill for now. I know It wont be as good as the superhawk, but I love the look of that blade style.

Nice review Haze. I agree with all your sentiments. I've been carrying mine for off and on for a few months now. The subtle hawkbill and the awesome handle are a great combo.

In fact, I would like to see that handle on a few other blades, a wharnie and/or a leaf blade for example.

BTW, I blame JDSpydo for the existance of the Superhawk. :D

Thanks for the nice rewiev and pix! I've ordered mine few days ago from knifeworks, hope it will get here soon.
I normally wear jeans and carry in the front pocket but I think I'll get some horizontal type belt holster made (a bit like the cell phones ones) to carry it on the belt without scaring the sheeples....

I wasnt crazy about the open design at first either but actually its not a bad thing.

I'm toying with the idea of making a Ti spacer for it but I duno, I kind of like it now.

Excellent review and great pics.
I finally ordered one for myself a few days ago. Got a really good price from a Canadian dealer (it's just about unheard of to save money by shopping up here).
I've always loved the design, just couldn't get past the price till I saw it for a little less than usual. Can't wait to handle one for myself.

Damnit...now I'm gonna have to get one:mad:

There's something about a Spyderco hawkbill that's so enticing, I can't figure it  The only Spyderco's I have are a Karambit, Tasman, and soon a Civilian.

Just got mine yesterday! It's a superlative knife, and I don't regret having spent 200 usd (+ 60 Euros of import tax and VAT when the parcel reached Italy). Fit and finish are great, I really like the machined barrel spacers and the mirror polished liners. The knife closed is unreasonably wide but due to its overall light weight doesn't become a pocket terror and carries very well (IMO) in the jeans front pocket. The blade is centered with no blade play and the action is very smooth, the compression lock locks tight without esitation. I wish my paramillie would have been this well executed...... This is my first carbon fiber handle and I really like it. I'm definitely glad I've bought this one and I'm looking forward to see the CF native.......
