The swap.

Just sharpened up my Buck 301 stockman ready for another week at work, then sat down with a whiskey and read this.

Thankyou Carl, your stories are always a pleasure to read.

Carl, more and more I find myself identifying with the old men of your stories, not the young men. :) Thanks for the treat.

I had a hard time reading this tale, darn chili peppers I tell ya', I must have touched my eye or somethin'...

Thanks Carl

Beautiful tale Carl. I'm glad that the Northwoods has brought you home :)

Carl, it does my heart good to see people getting so much happiness out of these blades. Glad you like the stockman and your nephew likes the 15. Your gal is a good lady, picking up on the stockman aspect of your life.

I love gifting stuff off. For one thing, it's only stuff in the end. I get my enjoyment out of it, and I want to share it then with others. Then of course, I also realize that I'm at an age where everything I own has a lifetime warrantee. It's not like I'm going to live long enough come close to wearing out any of my things. So I like to pass it on.

Plus, I know the kid, excuse me, young man, loves wood. He's become a finish carpenter and cabinet maker and has made a career out of working with wood. I noticed how he'd gently caress's the ebony scales, and ask if I'd rubbed any oil into it. So I know that the knife went to a great home with a young guy who will treat it well for many years to come. It's been over 10 years since I gave him my German Eye-Brand sodbuster with the blackwood handle. I was surprised at what good shape it was in, except of the slight narrowing of the blade from over a decade of use and sharpening.

It felt great to give him the knife. I think the old saying is really true, that's it's better to give than receive.

Another good one. I just recently went beck to carrying a stockman also. My grandfather gave me one when I was 11 an Old Timer. Now at 17, I just bought a Case Yellow CV Medium Stockman. It looks like this one is even better than the Peanut that I bought at this time last year! God Bless you and yours.

You've brightened my Monday, Carl. Thank you for a great story! Perfect home for that knife.

Carl, you weave masterful tales, I suspect that's because there is some reality in all of them. That was truly a heartwarming and inspiring recollection.

Thanks--Don
