Jerid Johnson suggested I check out this club and try out one of their monthly visits.
this is from earlier today where I spent a few hours watching Tony Swatton of Burbank CA perform his magic
this will be a quick write up :-)

http://www.swordandstone.com/

Tony was going to forge a sword, handle and guard in few hours. I had to leave early so could not see the final result.
Tony has a storefront with a shop in the back full of equipment.
It was a tight fit today with about 20 or so people, some from a blacksmiths club.

Tony will make a duplicate of this sword

I think this is Tony putting a flux powder on the welded bars billet (apologies if I don't have all the terminology correct)
the welded bars were already prepared in advance

Macassar ebony handle that he did in about 15 mins in front of us - to be wrapped with wire

Fun! That Nazel is great, doesn't look like he uses it though...
I worked on a Jody Samson dagger one time, that had a sheath built by Tony Swatton. It's interesting to see where that came out of!

Ambitious project for a club demo. I didn't get to stay to the end either. Tony sure knows how to knock out work fast. You can tell he has made a few in his time.
