I posted this in the Chris Reeve sub forum but I thought that the people that don't frequent that forum might be interested in seeing these pictures. I have been seriously accumulating knives for over a year now and just took the plunge this month on my first real high end knives. A Chris Reeve Sebenza and a Burger EXK 1. You all know about the Sebenza already so I won't go into any history there. As for those of you that are unfamiliar with Burger knives, they are custom made in South Africa by the Burger family. They have been making knives since 1987 and have been making the EXK for about 20 years now. Constantly making slight changes and upgrades until it became what it is today.

I really love the flipper type opener, it works very well every time. It doesn't fly open like a traditional flipper, it opens nice and controlled like a thumbstud or hole. The hand satin finished blade is a thing to marvel at and I really like the double liner lock cutout. This is the new model. It has a thicker Ti liner lock, no red spacer, and its supposed to have the closest tolerances of any knife they've ever made. Check em out!

I also just picked up my first Chris Reeve product about 3 weeks ago now. Its a small classic micarta sebenza that has been used but well cared for since April 24, 2008. I am a self admitting knife addict and buy and sell knives like crazy and used to always carry a different knife every day. Sometimes I would even bring a couple with me to work and switch them out mid day. I am happy to say that after reprofiling and putting a good edge on it, I have been carrying it every day. This is a huge thing for me, I never in a million years would have expected to want to carry a single knife every day and leave all my other knives at home. I thought that the classic/21 handle didn't look very ergonomic however as soon as I got it in hand I fell in love. It fits my hand like a glove. The previous owner used a torx driver in the alan screw heads so they look a bit off but I ordered a new set from Charmaine for $4.50 including shipping and should have them tomorrow, cant wait. I've wanted a Sebenza ever since I really got into knives last year and am glad that I finally took the plunge. Life is good!

Thanks for all the great info and excellent pictures!
The Burger knives look excellent.
I've never been a huge fan of flippers, but I never thought I'd buy a Sebenza or 2 either..

No problemo! The Burger EXK 1 isn't a flipper in a traditional sense. Its pretty hard to explain but you actually open it using your thumb on the spine jimping. With a regular flipper you give it a quick flip with your index finger on the piece of blade tang that protrudes out of the back of the knife handle when closed. You "flip" it once and then it flys out with no more contact with the blade. Whereas with the EXK 1 you open it just like you would a thumbstud but instead use the jimping on the top of the blade. Its a controlled opening with your thumb in contact with the blade spine the whole 180 degree rotation.

Oh and I forgot, if anyone wants to check out the Burger's work here is their website: http://www.burgerknives.co.za/

Nice choice my friend.

I own both and both are my favorite knives.
I can't decide which one is best but i love the Burger "flipper".

The sebenza is the stronger build knife of the 2.
My dream knife would be a mix of these 2.
Strong build of seb with the burger "flipper" and smooth burger action.

The Burger can also "fly" if you want:D.
So you can use it in many ways to open the blade.
Al little vid i made.

Congrats on two fine knives!

CRK and a Burger makes a great combo! I carry one of each as my EDC. I can say ideally I will love a small CRK and Large Burger and swop them out with a Large CRK and a small Burger.

I had a small CRK and Burger:

Then the SHTF and after insurance paid out I went with a large Insingo.

In future I will have my perfect EDC rotation. Just not now.

Here ya go: http://www.burgerknives.co.za/
Hes a custom maker.
You can also opt for the cheaper Chinese Boker Plus 440C model, about 50 bucks. Supposedly the fit and finish is great, even for an American knife.
