We see a lot of people ask how thick to leave their edges before heat treat. They are often told to leave them the thickness of a dime. Other people say .020-.030".
So how thick is a dime?
Stacy said the other day that it was about .050". I finally bought a caliper (I've always wanted one) and thought maybe this would be a good way to play with it a bit.
I gathered $1.50 in dimes from our change jar. The thickest was .0540" and the thinnest was .0490", with an average of .0507". Looks like Stacy was right.
So, half a dime'll do 'ya!
Have a good night everyone!
