The Throw Down: FFBM vs. NMFBM

I've owned both, sold the FFBM and kept the NMFBM. Imo the NMFBM swings better and chops beautifully. The weight-forward design does the work, I'm just along for the ride.

Not sure how big you are but the NMFBM is a Bad Boy if you can handle it!

Let me rephrase that - Once you have one you won't need another chopper :D I carry a 2nd blade for finesse

Either. Kind of a tie for me. I've use both for chopping and they both work great and wear me out in the same amount of time! The weight difference is negligible but the FFBM might field pack easier because it is slightly shorter. .

NMFBM tops every chopping knife I've owned. I will admit that I pack my CGFBM if I'm going very far just because of the weight but on a days outing it's not to much to carry.

A NMFBM or FFBM........what a wonderful decision to have to make because either way you are going to be delighted!

I have both and I would settle for either in a heartbeat. But my FFBM goes everywhere with me. For me it has a slightly better "heft" in my hand and I really like the balance. It's slightly smaller size just makes it that much easier for bags and cases.
I think the only practical way is to have a go with both and see which you prefer.

Good luck with your search and be sure and come back and tell us what you have decided on and post a few pics.......:)

The NMFBM either CG or LE will outchop the FFBM. :)

With that Convex grind down to a very fine edge it really bites deeper and that extra inch of blade makes a lot of difference too. I have both, chopped with both and every time the NMFBM comes out on top.

I still believe the NMFBM is the best Big chopper Busse makes that is a knife and light enough to carry. They are about the same weight give or take an ounce or so depending on how thick the NMFBM is that you have.

Once you swing a NMFBM you won't ever look at another big blade.

You can believe what Jim says he's tested more knives than i've ever owned. Good to see you around here Jim. ;)

Since I've owned my NMFBM, its been dinged, rolled, scratched and dulled in some areas. I have yet to sharpen it (needs to be sent in badly) and it still send chunks of hardwood flying. The weight combined with the convex edge just bites into hard dried wood and live trees alike. I can't wait to get it back from the Busse spa. I almost forget how awesome it is razor sharp.

Why bother with a knife "almost" as heavy or long. In that size range, you might as well just go all the way.

Another vote for the NMFBM

For me the NMFBM is the best chopper of all the Mistresses ....
