Meet the new queen of the Swamp, the Tigress In Heat. :)

This M6 started out life as a black CG model with black canvas handles. I got a really incredible piece of underground Koa a few months ago from burl source. I knew it was something special but I had no Idea just how gorgeous it would turn out. The wood on this knife is hands down the most beautiful specimen I've ever seen. You can't photograph how beautiful it is. The wood just looks alive. The only thing I can compare the pattern to is a Tiger. The curls in the Koa look like the stripes of tiger hide rippling.

I decided to try and make the handle look as organic as possible and really show off the wood. The block was thin so I had to add liners. I put on an orange and canvas micarta liner and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. The orange looks great in person and adds to the character of the knife. I made the contours of the handle very subtle and left off the lanyard hole to really show the full effect of the wood. The micarta pins looks great and go very well with the wood. Metal pins would have taken away from the flow.

Im very, very pleased with how this knife turned out. The satin finish isn't factory perfect but the hamon is highly visible and the mirror edge looks great. The pictures look decent but you have to see this thing in person to grasp the full beauty.

If you could estimate your time working on this transformation how many hours might that be. Not counting the time spent thinking of how it would all come together.

I time how long all my projects take me. This one took just north of 12 hours from drilling off the old handles to putting on the linseed oil finish. I spent at least 6 hours hand sanding this one. I noticed this block chipped a little more readily than other Koa blocks Ive used so I went slow and did most of the shaping by hand to make sure there was no chipping.

Edit- I forgot that I had to strip and sand out the tooling marks because I did that a while ago. That probably took me an aditional 2 hours.

Excellent work!

Interesting, the R6 looks just like the M6 (well, not that particular one, of course) but with an upper guard/tang added.

wow that is awesome
