The Time Has Come To "Embrace The Suck" . . .

What are the specs? It looks BATAC-ish but longer? Very cool nonetheless!

"The Suck" - I never heard that term before. Maybe created by the X-Generation and the producers of "Jar Head"? I got out in 1996 and never heard that term at all untill I saw Jar Head.

My cousin was in back in the late 70's and he called it the suck back then  The knife itself is a satin jack tac a little longer than the batac and ever so sweet!

I'm waiting for Amy to tip us off that something is in the wind! C'mon Amy!!

Nice knife Boss.

Recondo, thanks and keep your powder dry.

I was in the Corps 86-91 and "The Suck" was used quite often. One could find the letters "FTS" written on porta-potty walls from CamPen to Korea. I'll leave it to you to figure out what those letters mean. :D

FTS was posted on the Barrack Walls at Ft. Hood! 2001-2005

Also, FTA, FTN, FTAF, FTC (or FTMC to be formal) if you wish to curse a particular branch of the services. FTS for the general situation. Never heard the "SUCK", myself, but I was a Navy Corpsman in the early 70's and the grunts would either wish to "F" the Corps, the Navy, "it all", "this sh!t", "the 'Nam", etc. Soldiers have been saying FTS for millennia and I don't believe that they meant "the suck", though they often say "this (or that) sucks". The "suck" seems relatively recent but, as is usually the case, an apt description of the situations that soldiers tend to find themselves involved in. My $0.02. Pete
Post Script: Nice tan/tan SJTAC. I could go for a 4th SJTAC, in tans this time, but let's leave the engraved ones for those who have survived the suckage. PIGmsayre

One of the sailors in my division on Enterprise got "FTN" for his customized Virginia license plate after we came around from California in '90. As his division officer, I took no end of grief over that. At some point, the command attempted to have his base sticker scraped, but we left NOB for the Newport News shipyard and the issue became moot.

My little brother attended The Basic School (aka TBS) as a Marine 2LT in the winter/spring of '94. He and his classmates uniformly referred to it as The Big Suck.

When I was in the Royal Marines we all hated the corps at some point but generally we just hated the officers.

One guy went as far as getting a "F**k You" tattoo along the bottom of his pinky finger, that way he could give them a sly F U every time he had to salute. He had it 2 years when I left and still he hadn't been caught.

The "EMBRACE THE SUCK" motto came to our TEAM through our CSM (Command Sergeant Major). We got in a pretty bad situation back in June of last year. One of the guys made to comment on how bad things were and that it sucked. The CSM overheard him say it to me and yelled out "EMBRACE THE SUCK son! Its S#!++Y and Its going to get worst, so make the best of it!" So since that day our TEAM motto has been "EMBRACE THE SUCK".

I asked to have the motto inscribed on the original "ETS" knife (a BATAC) not only to remind me of the TEAM, but that if things get bad, I have something in my sheath or hand to help make things better! My BUSSE!

Simply awsome.... Dont think I'll ever forget you EMBRACING THE SUCK for our country, Hooorah
