After many back and forth with Auntie, I decided to take back the Tirtha Bowie and work on the handle myself. I just had an instant connection with how the blade looks and feel despite the handle so I felt better with it back in my hands. I think I will do a project with this and make it into a two handed Tirtha Bowie since there is enough tang length for me to expand. Will post pictures once I start the project!

Sounds like a good project. Since you're rehandling, you can have the new handle cover the cut marks in the steel at the ends of the old handle. With that change, and replacing or eliminating the wavy brass liner, and maybe a bit of polishing of the blade, you'll have a really special Tirtha Bowie.
I don't know if you do much woodworking, but for a blade of this quality I'd rehandle with a top quality wood, maybe gaboon ebony, lignum vitae, purpleheart -- or any tropical hardwood that takes a high polish and has a nice grain. That stuff runs $10-15 a pound, but you'd only need a small amount.
If the existing handle comes off cleanly (drill the pins and boil to loosen the laha epoxy) an alternative might be to reuse the cherry pieces, add a stainless steel bolster or guard at the front, and a matching metal piece at the rear of the handle to extend its length and cover the cut marks.
Just my thoughts. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be good.
