The "top" three?

To me its about the 103 or 402, 120 or 200 and a 110 with drop point blade and Duke from the Heritage Series . How bout them Texas Rangers making it to the World Series .
That should cover all bases in case I'm alittle off on this topic . DM ;)

Just got a Buck Vantage Pro small! i love it! And i have tons of spydercos, benchmades, striders, Chris Reeves, Hinderers! I love Buck knives and always will! They are one heck of a knife! Built like a brick!

Okay, I have got to ask these two questions, and hope I don't sound ignorant or arrogant in the process. I'm no expert on knives either, but have been carrying one in some form or the other for about 23 years. Most of my knives have either been Bucks, Case, (old)-Schrades, Kershaw, Browning, Gerber, Western,.... (never owned a Spyderco or Benchmade) I've always found Bucks to be well built reliable knives, and thats all I currently own or use. I have 2 questions ;)
#1. Where are these said references on this site to the Big 3? I cannot locate them anywhere?
#2. You own a Spyderco, and a Benchmade, and a Buck... What are your thoughts?

Don't read too much into others thoughts or comments. We're all "knifenuts" its not all Ford/Chevy/Dodge bickering :D ;) Buck has been around for over 100 years, take it for what its worth. (my .02, YMMV, IMHO ONLY) :D
Besides, what kinda world would this be if we all liked the same exact thing????

Thanks

Well, I think this started when a NON Buckaholic listed off three (lesser) knife companies, Snotderco, Belchmade and Kerchoo( God bless You) and didn't list Buck. The question was something bout is Buck comparable with these other knife companies. And the servey Says: #1) BUCK,
When you ask a question on a BUCK SITE expect to hear BUCK ring like bells on Sunday morning. Not saying the other knives arn't good But:::: WE LIKIE BUCK!!!!

I thought it was a goofy statement as well . So, I posted a like wise reply . Still, I wouldn't take it too serious . DM

So what exactly did you find "goofy" about the question/statement? The fact that a Buck lover new to Blade Forums is a bit curious as to why a good portion of the posts that I have seen refer to the three manufacturers that I mentioned?

This is the specific post that got me wondering:

Now to show my ignorance, prior to about 6 months ago, I had never heard of Benchmade or Spyderco. And Kershaw I was only familiar with because I've seen them at Walmart. Since then, I've bought a few Kershaws, and a couple of Benchmades. To me, they're alright knives, But I still prefer my 112 Ranger and an old Case that my dad gave to me. And I'm really lovin' the Buck Alpha Dorado I just picked up a few weeks ago:D

Forgive me for asking for some insight from what I had hoped would be some highly knowledgeable knive lovers.

Jim~

Dont get your feelings hurt, we all talk alot of trash here. We are all friends and are only giving you a hard time. We are BUCK lovers though.

This is about your big three. There are others who are top sellers that did not get into your three. Many makers produce great knives.
Yes...that is true. But this thread isn't about those manufacturers.
Best,
Heekma

Interesting discussion, to a point. It's clear that some people in that thread understood that they were just comparing three manufacturers of the original poster's choice. The designation of "Top Three" was made by the OP and some took it without question, others did not. I'd call it an "Arbitrary Three". It's like comparing Buck and Case and calling them the "Top Two". And from a certain perspective they are the top two, but it depends on your orientation.

Generally I collect Buck knives, so for me they are the "Top One". I have more Bucks than any other brand, Victorinox comes second, Case and Lone Wolf come after that. So are these the "Top Four"? Yes, from my perspective. I could start a thread comparing my "Top Four". That is essentially what the OP of that thread did.

I don't traffic the General Forum so I don't know whats stated there . We traffic Buck so we know those knives . Don't take it to be against you . DM

I like Buck knives the most, they have a top quality product by ANY standard...I really like EVERY SINGLE Person I've met who is part of the Buck family...And more to the point I think they really care about us...From the girl on the phone taking orders to the Big Boss himself..Like me, they too love God and pray for His guidance in the company...

I am very new to the Buck forums overall, but I spend a lot of time in the general discussion area. I just wanted to say the impression that Buck is looked down upon is false. I see Buck mentioned a lot, especially when it comes to value knives. The Buck 110 is highly regarded by a lot of members too. Often referred to as a must have for knife collector's.

Same goes for Victorinox, people absolutely adore SAK's, and I have yet to hear someone bad mouth them.

As for the big 3 thing, I do think Buck gets overlooked, and most of that is probably due to how inexpensive they are IMO. Personally, I am a huge Spyderco fan, and I am not really into the tactical thing. I just find their designs to be purpose built toward EDC tasks (at least the ones I like).

I do think there is a divide based around modern and traditional. It seems to me that many people see Buck as a a traditional knife company, that mostly makes hunting knives, and dabble's in EDC, where most of the BM's, Spydies and Kershaws are utility/EDC blades, and dabble in tactical.

Guess it mostly boil's down to, is Buck get's respect in the general forums, but due to a perception of it as a traditional/hunting knife company, it is not highly visible. That does not mean people disrespect or put down Buck as a company, I have not seen anyone say anything negative about them.
