After EDC'n Trapper's, Sowbelly's, Moose's, large Stockman's and other grand slipjoint patterns for many years, I have come to realize through the sound reasoning of a handful of members here, that small knives have their place in our(my) pockets as well.

I kinda hate to admit it, but there are just too many situations in day to day life that a large knife is just not appropriate all the time. When these occurrences arise one must still be prepared to cut things, and cut things well with his or her small slippy knife. Sunday-go-to-meet'n get-togethers come to mind, or any place that you find yourself in where the average Joe or Josephine citizen is among you. I have found through jackknife's and other's teachings in here that many small pocket knives pack a helluva lot of blade in a little package. The secret is thinly ground blades that cut like the dickens.

In light of this knowledge that was so graciously bestowed upon me here, I am going to give a way(sort of stealthy-like, like Thomason's last contest) my first ever smaller slipjoint knives contest right here and now in this thread.

The Rules are simple:

1) Anyone can participate, yes anyone, even the lurkers.
2) Your post number is your contest entry number.
3) The drawing will be chosen at random and called out this Saturday night.

A few things to remember before posting..

(A) There are those who post in here just for the contests, and perhaps snag a knife never to return until the next contest, hence never contribute or lurk in here.. If that's you, I would urge you to think twice before entering. And then don't.

(B) Please, no multiple posts.

(C) Good Luck & Have Fun.:)

The Knives:

~ ><> ~ A Schrade+ USA made little Stockman (2) blade pocket knife. New, never used, or carried.. I don't know much about this little gal.. She is 2 3/4 inches in the closed position, has slotted brass bolsters and sweet Oak hardwood scales.. She has no model marked anywhere at all but appears to have the same(or similar) frame as the old 108OT but with only one back-spring.

The second pocket knife will be a famous SAK pattern 2 1/4 inches closed and will be one of these cute little guys..

Thanks for the contest. I have lately gotten back into slippies. I carried a small Boker pen knife for years and over the past year have EDC'd a BM707 and sm Sebenza. Lately though, I have added a small Queen Stockman to my EDC to use for small (more public) cutting jobs. I really love the little knife -- after a proper resharpening of course.

Thanks Anthony, that Schrade looks like a sweet little knife!

My most oft carried small knife is the 2006 Forum knife we did last year. I love that little Canal Street ring knife. It's perfect for the office, church etc. Plus with the A2 steel it cuts like a bigger knife.

Good luck to everyone, but especially me. ;)

Great opportunity. I understand exactly where you're coming from. One week into carrying my yellow handled CV peanut and I'm already getting a nice patina on it. Discussed this very topic with wudnme today. Just got his yellow handled CV peanut in the mail today. Jackknife, you've started a revolution! Viva jackknife:)!

Thanks for the post and the contest sunnyd.

I made it a habit to always have a Victorinox classic on me at all times. Well, I did up until this past week during which I seem to have lost it (doh!).

I agree though, my gf and I both use knives with sub-3" blades for our edc knives. As of yet I have yet to find anything that they can't handle.

I keep Case CV's and a Sak in my pocket all the time. My business sometimes requires a big hoss of a knife. I keep those in the door of the truck nowadays.

I've always made slipjoints a part of my EDCs, and I've always collected the same because they offered the greatest variety for the money.

Like you too I like the sheeple friendly aspect of carryin' a slipjoint

Thanks for the contest.

Here's a few pics fer ya.

The majority of my knives are slippies and I carry one every day (I too work at a very knife unfriendly place and carry the small ones). Count me in!!

sunnyd,

You are quite the gentleman for doing this contest, thank you.

I was born with a Case Peanut and .22 Revolver in my dresser drawer crib.
How is that for starting out in this journey called Life?

Maternal Grandma stuck them in there and she and all my Mentors & Elders knew all being Minimalist.

No matter how much bigger I get, some simple lessons still apply from how I was brought up.

Oh no doubt there are time, the task is best done with a Stockman, a Trapper, a
.45ACP or .357.

Still a Peanut and .22 handgun will do a whole lot for a person, and often times still be the best tool for task.

Like passing forward to others, and the hands being smaller on these youth. The small slipjoint, and less felt recoil from a .22 allows for teaching, and ingraining the correct basic fundamentals.

Not to mention FUN!

I didn't grow up, just got bigger is all -anon

Those would be great additions to my slow growing slippie collection. Thanks for the opportunity!!

Generous of you Sunnyd.

My first knife was an Old Timer Jr. Stockman. I've carried a Jr. Stockman pattern ever since. For many jobs those peanut sized knives are just the thing. Many others are helped by a larger handle, so I carry a bigger knife as well.

Sunny,

I have already come out a winner as a result of my brief tenor here, and the comradery I've found as a result is worth my whole collection. This is not an entry just an expression of gratitude in regards to your generosity, and also to all those who contribute to this forum which helps me on a daily basis to discover a more traditional side of myself...in a world where many things are plastic....it's nice to visit a place where things are still organic and real....Thanks guys.

When you talk SGTM knives, I usually carry a 309 two blade in a cuttersandcollectors fancy buckaroo hanging sheath or a small SAK in a leather slip. Usually just the plain black scale 309. There are plenty to pick from though, I favor the pre 80's 440 steel(long pulls)....300$s

T.Erdelyi - I have the compass but not the knife....

got my new (to me) cv case peanut today. A little time on the sharpmaker and she poppin hairs and ready for EDC. Never can have enough of those little SAKs. I think it was said in another thread how great they are for stashing in different places like glove box, tackle box , desk drawer, etc.

What is interesting is how without planning most of my knives are small, 3 1/2" or less.

Do you mean the hone angle when you say "The secret is thinly ground blades that cut like the dickens."
If so what degree grind.

Oak and brass is a classic combination.
Genereous offer.

Thanks,
