Roughly about a thousand a year Jack. If all the stars line up and cricks don't rise, I usually can get out two batches like above a month.

The difficulty is there is a constant conveyor belt MONSTER that needs to be fed to do this. So thats the last batch of 53 that we just finished. But meanwhile back at the ranch......more steel has been ordered for another batch. Nichole had just finished a few days ago bandsawing on even another batch (out of three sheets of damascus and one of stainless) of fifty odd blades. While I was making a belt and a shop apron yesterday for another BF member, my daughter was up for the weekend and she profiled those roughsawn blades on the grinders. Meanwhile I finished these chaps off for a young cowboy as he was heading out to look for some strays that kept getting on the neighbors. Dang 4 wheelers cutting fence again.

Then Nichole and I sat down with a box of 110 or so blades already back from heat treat and we decided which ones we'd build up in the next batch I'll start on in the morning. We divided these blades roughly in half for two separate groups. So about the time I'm ready to start on that second group of already heat treated blades the group we're prepping for heat treat now will be back from heat treat. Meanwhile somewhere, sometime, probably early tomorrow night or late tomorrow evening I'll drill all the holes necessary in the other batch that my daughter profiled and get em stamped and ground and sent off to heat treat. That'll take a couple of days for the pre heat treat grinding (80 to 90 percent finished) and then another couple of days to do the post heat treat grinding on the batch that we set aside before we start putting bolsters and handles on. Its about a week to make up a batch once I start putting handles and bolsters on and then 3/4 days to do the sheaths. After each batch I kinda let down for 3 or 4 days and do some leather work. So besides building those chaps, I made five holsters, the belt and shop apron mentioned already and built a couple extra sheaths too.

Oh and I have a new horse I'm working in the afternoons and our roping competitions will be starting up again next weekend and we have to do our spring works out at the ranch and process all the cows and brand all the new calves and then feed the MONSTER, feed the MONSTER and then feed the MONSTER. Occasionally I'll type on this keyboard and we watched a movie last night.

A friend recently wanted to see a few slippies so got the Lanny's out and did a quick group shot with the iPhone...

Incredible Dave! I don't think I know anybody who fits more hours into a day than you my friend, you are a marvel :)

Thanks guys!

Paul its for doing the tooling on the leather, the basket stamping, oak leaf tooling, the brand on that holster etc. Ya need to have mass under your leather when stamping. Nichole has a granite surface plate that she uses in her office for tooling (she does all the flower carving). Its 4"x 18"x 24". Talk about mass. We had to build a special bench to hold it and it takes about 3 pretty stout cowboys to move it.

Carbon fiber shadow, just left off center, bar shield - who made that one?

- probably one of the very, very best folders I own - Lannys Clip LockBack from Jared Oeser - it has an action and a silkiness like no other lockback I've ever tried.

- and, probably the only Oeser I'll ever get to own
