The truck I want

Once the switch happened with the ultra low sulfur diesel, all of the manufactures had trouble as the supply-chain didn't meet the specs for quite some time. And since injector damage can take some time to show up, I wouldn't be guessing it was the trucks off the bat. That said, between the the changes to the fuel system, and other changes to the engines, I wouldn't be surprised if there were troubles. the 5.9 cummins was tweaked and proven over a long time, and the 6.7 made some huge sacrifices to make up for the fuel and emission changes. We had much more trouble keeping 07 and 08 fords on the road though, and those had a special invoice code as they were much more expensive than the others to do an oil change on.

My 02 Dodge was very reliable, and simple. The only problem I had was with the lift pump going out at a little over 80,000 which was expected, and a solenoid in the transmission that took a crap at about 120,000.

My 13 Laramie is a totally different truck. The power is incredible, and it has all the creature comforts. When Dodge came out with the exhaust brake in 2007, they had nothing but trouble with those.
Ram now offers a new Hemi in the 2014 2500 and 3500. It is a 6.4. It should be a great engine, but I certainly wouldn't buy a first year production of one though.

My work truck is a '13 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I'm already 20K into it and, so far, it's been excellent. Rides great, comfortable and since I spend 95% of my time on the highway! the hemi power is a help.
Obviously I can't speak to the new diesel, but the truck is a winner for me.

I am also curious about the new V-6 diesel. Should get 25-32 mpg.

I currently own my favorite truck ever. My dream truck. 2008 Dodge Power Wagon. Hemi w/G56 6-speed manual. Geared uber low, lower than a RUBICON with it's 4.0:1 lo range. 6.29:1 first gear, 4.56's in the axles & a 2.72:1 Lo range. 78.016:1 crawl ratio !!! Best truck i ever owned. HORRIBLE MPG's though. 8-10 mpg empty or loaded, don't matter. Low as 3 mpg climbing a long steep hill with our 10,500 lb camper behind. Still LOVE THIS TRUCK !!!

For mileage, the big diesels aren't the best, but you may want to look into chips, or other things that might help reduce consumption, since if you are not towing those things have horses to spare. And a huge factor of mileage in a turbo-diesel is between the wheel and the seat. plus most guys consumption reports are on AT or mud tires. run day to day on good hard touring tires, and you'll get much better.
I drive a 1994.5 Crew cab Dually ford powerstroke and Average 18 mpg..

You must have a good one. I worked on two diesel trucks that wouldn't even soot up the oil. The one was an old 6.5 chevy turbo, and it sounded like a tuned v6, the other was a 12 valve cummins, that had over half a million KM on it. Sometimes vehicles break the averages in a good way. Also you could just be very in tune with your truck, and can really squeeze out the miles. either way, something to be proud of.

Love my 2012 1500 Big Horn w/the 5.7 Hemi. Seriously smooth ride and just about all the power I would ever need.

If I was doing a lot of heavy towing, I would have gotten the 2500 Cummins instead. But about the most I ever tow is a driftboat, which I don't even know is back there with the Hemi. The additional mileage with the diesel is also tempting, but by the time you pay thousands more for the engine up front, and about a $1 more per gallon at the pump....well, I can buy a lot of gas for that amount of money. I would also be a little leery of the new diesel (since it's not a Cummins) until it's been on the market for a few years.

Nice color :D The Hemis are surprising. Even the smaller 4.7 runs good. In a 1500 the Hemis are actually really fun to drive
