The Truth About Multi-Tools...

I've had a Leatherman Wave in a home made pouch on my belt for many years. I would immediately replace it if lost. Can't say the same for any knife I've ever owned.
 
When I was working as a punch list carpenter for new homes I used my Leatherman a whole lot.
I just carried a small bag for tools and no tool belt because risk of scratching things up.

These days though I keep one in my vehicle and a couple around the house.
The Wave and the Blast were the ones I liked the most.
 
Reading all the posts here have made me realize what a strange attachment I have to my SwissTool.

Yes! This is my second Victorinox. I don't remember what happened to the first one, but I remember ordering the second one and waiting for it to arrive from Amazon. Like I was missing a lung or something! Couldn't wait for it to get here!
I've left the house without a knife, but if I leave for work without my MT, I walk funny. Like a limp or something.

What is wrong with me? Even looking at it over there on the shelf gives me a warm fuzzy.
I'm going to have to erect a shrine.
 
It seems there is no middle ground. Folks can’t live without some dont need them at all. Very interesting.

I went as far as to buy a Leatherman Tread like tool (OK, I didn't buy it. It was a fathers day gift last year from my wife, and its not the real deal) to have for times when I can't carry my MT. It's almost like a rosary to me. I mean, it's heavy and chunky and pinches my arm hair and is only useful for the most niche of tasks, but I like having it on me. I've pressed it into service a few times, not as much as I would hope and I'm certainly glad my wife didnt drop tons of cash on it, but its works.
 
When I think of multi tools I think of my Leathermans. I have a total of 4 now. I bring the wave with me hiking/camping and when a little heavier/ sturdier option is practical. It wasn't until I purchased a Leatherman Rev that I started really carrying one everyday though. It's light weight and has saved me in a pinch countless times. I recently upgraded it to a wingman for the added scissors.

In addition, the mt that has come in handy the most is my Leatherman Squirt PS4 which is always on my keychain. Because of that I never forget it and always have it with me. It's opened more kids toys battery compartments, filed my nails, removed small stuck objects at work, etc. It is indispensable.

I also carry a SAK Compact daily.

In full honesty, the wearable tool isn't that useful. Drivers are too short or too fat to reach recessed screws, you aren't going to get enough torque to use any of the wrenches, and the things are heavy. Im not a big baby about weight of knives/tools, but i feel it in my arm by the end of the day.

Its a neat idea and a nice crutch for guys that feel the need to tooled up, but really glad she didn't pay full price for mine. The idea is cool but I havent been able to find a way to press it into service that would justify 150 bucks.
 
I have all the tools one could ask for at work and at home, but it comes in handy in the glove box. Used one to dig a fuse out from under my battery on the side of the road once. But honestly considering I have a car knife, my EDC and a backpack knife, I might be better off just keep a Knipex Pliers wrench in the glove box.

I can see them being great for people who don't work around tools though.
