The Twilight of Linerless Knives?

I said this on the Spyderco forum and I paraphrase it here; I think a lot of the desire for liners is a holdover from before the Space Age, when all available materials were either heavy or flimsy. Let's face it, fifty years ago there was nothing to compare to today's FRN. They used brass and steel to make knives as strong as plastics are now. I like hefty knives, but I carry light ones. Skeletonize those liners if you must have them. Nest them in the scales if they are needed. Leave them out if you can. I know I will buy them anyway, but if they are light enough, I will have them with me when I need them.
