The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2020 forum knife possibility discussion thread

meako meako , what makes it possibly the most unlikely idea "evvah"? I think it would look great with my factory elephant ivory Northwoods.

Ivory! including Mammmoth, Mastodon, Walrus ,Warthog and Wild Pig...whilst I fullly agree would make for a beautiful knife...make it so unlikely that I would bet money on it not being an option...couple of reasons have been already mentioned...Mainly:
Cost...even for cheap  pig ivory ...if we doubled the price would put it out of reach for many of us including me.So that sucks.
Availability....
Import/Export laws...negotiating that labyrinth even just sounds difficult....bribery and falsification of paperwork are deffo not Porchy and probably the only way apart from paying smugglers that I would get one to Aus....so yes it is a beautiful material but heavily outweighed by the cost and hassles involved.
I dont mean to be rude...but your tag has a very specific meaning in both Australia and more so the UK...
Not sure of your location so maybe its a colloquialism with a different meaning...my apologies for seeming narky.
Cheers.
Beaut looking Northwoods btw.

Dunno. In the US it refers to delicate unmentionables of the female persuasion ...
Either by the British/Australian definition or the American one,it is not something I would call myself. To my reckoning what we choose to call ourselves speaks volumes as it pertains to our character. I myself readily call myself a hillbilly for I am from the rual Appalachian mountains, and I am proud of my heritage. Now that I live in coastal North Carolina I certainly feel "misplaced" as to what I consider my cultural home.

Canal street recently did a boys knife in red flannel, so they called it. Looks like red and black carbon fiber but it might be what you are looking for cover wise.

You mean, sort of like this? :D

Well dang, somebody at Case sorta stole my idea. And to top it off I probably won’t even get a royalty or even a demo model to try:( But to me it doesn’t really look like flannel or plaid, more of a weave:confused:

I'm not sure if I have actually chimed in on this thread yet. I really have not had the time to be on Bladeforums much in quite a while. I still try to check in, and of course I've always got my eye on potential traditional forum knives. Honestly, at this point, the forum knife is pretty much my main knife interest.

That said, last year's process got rough enough that I still feel ambivalent about whether or not I even want a new knife to go forward. I love my collection of forum knives, but I got into traditional knives because I liked the community here on the porch so much. Last year the forum knife seemed to bring out a lot of ugly in a lot of folks. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

All that aside, it is time for my annual plea for a forum Whaler/Sunfish/Elephant's Toe. In case anyone is unfamiliar with those beauties, here is my Tidioute Whaler:

Yes, yes, I know it isn't going to happen (especially not under the $100 mark), but I am going to ask every year that I participate.

Since that is not going to happen, my next annual request/hope is for a scout knife pattern. I have more scouts than any other pattern of knife, but I still don't have a forum knife quality scout knife. Just for reference, here is my current favorite scout I have:

Now that we've gotten the formalities out of the way, I am also going to throw my weight behind @r8shell. I would love to see a punchnut (I also need a good peanut), and a bird and trout knife would be most useful. Maybe this could finally be the year for a traditional fixed blade?

I too think a Scout knife would be a terrific pattern to have:thumbsup:

I know I've seen posted elsewhere that GEC refuses to do another scout. But in my opinion a spear main with cut swedge and ling pull, their screwdriver/caplifter blade,an awl,and a pen blade on the 35 would be awesome. It would be more like the post war Navy utility knife. With the exception of the awl in place of the can opener.

I would be happy with that, as well... a small scout type knife would definitely be on my "woo-hoo!" list... but since it seems that the more blades you put on a knife, the higher the price goes, do we think GEC could (if they agreed to the build) put this together within our price restriction? Just a thought.

Since we are just throwing out ideas...
I would like a GEC Farm and Field #47, with some type of wood handles, and a Lambsfoot blade. :)

I could easily get behind that.

Speaking of throwing out ideas, would it be viable to offer a (limited) choice of handle materials?

I do like the 46 Whaler or 36 Sunfish idea.

Also, I do not care about the supposed $100 limit. Theoretically, if Bill Howard wants to offer a special split-back whittler version of a brand new cool PPP pattern then that is what I want and we know that would be more than $100.
