The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2020 forum knife possibility discussion thread

Just a couple notes.

I have never seen GEC add variations, other than small overruns, once production has started on a pattern. So, I don't see a scenario where a #62 or even #23 is in the cards.

I don't know where they source their steel or tubes; but Peter's would be affected.

I had asked Bill to provide any possible options to us 45 days or so ago, and he was working on the 2020 schedule. But he understandably asked for some time after this fiasco started.

With PA requiring the shutdown and companies, at least for now, responsible for employees financial well-being; this could be catastrophic to small businesses like GEC. The bills don't stop just because they are not making anything...

Right and these shutdowns are all across your nation and Europe, the knock on effect is possibly beyond belief. Fiasco indeed.

GEC might add a variation due to these exceptional circumstances? Let's hope there's some light in the tunnel soon

I was hoping for a forum knife as this would be the first year I am eligible. But with all the shutdowns going on I am hoping I would have the funds available. My business came to a screeching halt last Friday

Dont forget a 40K flight from sydney to perth for a retiring mp who rorted the sports grants for politucal gain ...yes it is a long way but did she really need an airforce plane and crew to take her? No. She should have gone economy with the losers who paid for her.

Your politicians sound just like OUR politicians. Don't worry about the cost.... the taxpayers will cover it...
All of them do it.

Does asking what the requirements to be elegible for a forum knife are, make it very obvious that I am not elegible?

I like doctor's knives. I'd love one for the BF2020 if it were an option.

btw, our Pennsylvania Governor just extended the business closures to April 30 now, possible longer to be reviewed as needed. No good for Case or GEC, or all the suppliers and subcontractors. :(

I'd like a Doctor's too, with blue micarta, this would be a first. :)
I wish GEC be back in operation asap, with taskforce complete and safely.

I realize most of you are sitting in the basement, in the dark, cooking macaroni over your last jar of Sterno, but that does not mean we cannot be making major progress on the 2020 forum knife.

The idea of a two blade knife with a combo can opener/cap lifter or a heavy fixed blade both seem very timely, so here are my updated concepts—-

Mini trapper size two blade knife, a carbon clip blade and a stainless can opener/cap lifter, with quinine wood covers, lanyard hole and a circular shield (a subtle reference to the shape of a corona virus and the great circle of life).

if we go fixed blade, then that means we are headed to the thunderdome, so a Buck 124 full flat grind in 154 cm or S30V with slimmed down quinine wood handle, and brown leather sheath. Probably need a skull crusher pommel also.

IF we're holed up in the cellars we might need a shovel/pick combo :D But, despite what the media would like us to think, we're still far from it ;)

Plan for the future, then you can cope with the present.

GEC with a bail, scales worthy of a slip, with a bail for gentlemen like extraction. Might be the only one but think it would be a memorable knife.

Being a Buck accumulator and a 192 Vanguard aficionado, I would like that also. The knife feels great in hand and is pleasing to look at. This is one done in 5160, haven't seen Buck use 1095. They have used W2, D2, tool steels. As well as many of the "super" steels.

Very sorry for missing this before Preston, that looks great :)

I would take a Buck fixed blade. I really am starting to like the vanguard! Or maybe one of their more classic fixed blades. Or another custom Buck folder again, maybe a 112?
