I picked up this book at the library this week and I just finished it.

It's a good read.

I'm no book reviewer, so I won't try. It really goes into the psychological aspect of survival and mental preparedness.

It a very good book and written well.

There were a series of articles about survival in one of the sailing magazines .One of them was about a pilot in Alaska who went down. With little injury and the rescue teams arrived in good time he should have made it. He didn't ,he was totally unprepared mentally and he shot himself !!
It's been found that it's much better to have at least two people for these situations .

Author's name? Number of pages? Year it was written? Need a bit of detail. Is it similar to "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales?

I think I have her name in one of my many notebooks. I listened to her on C-SPAN Radio back near or on the anniversary of Katrina. I just cannot remember her name. Sounded very interesting.

I haven't read that book, but I just finished a similar one:

Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why
by Laurence Gonzales

Focused on the mindset of survivors. Did not address any survival techniques. Well written and easy to read. I recommend it.

Sorry about the name being missing. As I said no book reviewer am I!

Ripley wrore it and is is very comparable to Deep Survival.

It did talk about how poorly the govt preps the public for disasters also.

That is her. If I remember correctly from the interview she said that most people did not panic and were very calm, the people she interviewed and/or observed watching footage, etc.

Thanks for the name. I will look up the book and see if I can get it here at the library. I am a big fan of Laurence Gonzales. I have "Deep Survival" but I also have a number of his other books. "One Zero Charlie" is a great book about small plane aviation for any pilots out there. He also has another book just released called "Everyday Survival", sort of why do people make the decisions they do.

+2. I found it on a shelf at my sister-in-laws house (her husband is outdoorsy) and read the whole thing during a visit. Yeah, I have no social skills.
