The Urban Series

Thanks for taking the time to post your initial thoughts. As I mentioned, I can also do these in a single edge or reverse edge style. I noticed myself that if I held it with my thumb on the spine, I had to be careful on where I placed it so it was not too close to the edge. (top edge should be shorter) As for handle length, that`s easily remedied.

Great review Rocky. I'm looking forward to handling these.

I am a life long martial artist as well, and still train in knife/stick/sword edged weapons daily. Rocky I agree with your statements about "knife fighting", training mind first, etc. However I would not discourage anyone from seeking out qualified training from a real life instructor. Please don't try to learn martial arts, weapons or even tai chi from a video! I would encourage a man or woman of any age to learn to defend one's self, and in this area we are seeing more knife attacks so some training is better than none. Looking forward to hearing more about John's "fighting" knives, these knives could be used for utility while also working very well in the hands of a person who will train dilligently, and as Rocky said, run first, mind over matter.

Good point, WC. I also encourage the learning to defend oneself, and am in training to be a firearms instructor too. One of my school's requirements for black belt was to have the student testing take home a book on martial arts of some sort and learn a sequence from it, then teach said sequence to the class. They learned quickly that the nuances of the postures was difficult to glean from the book! Training with an instructor is the way to go.

Yep going into a knife fight you have to expect to get cut. You are right rockywolf about walking away if you have a chance. My instructor tells us all the time.

Although I have not handled the knife, I like the way the Urban Backup looks. It looks to be comfortable in both pikal & saksak grips. I need to need to get my order in soon!

Yes, the key is protecting the areas that you don't want cut!
Definitely looks like a great knife. Very interested in this.

Nice! Can't wait. Thank you for including me in the testing of these.

WoodenChicken has joined the test team.

Looking forward! BTW, can anyone help a tech-challenged guy like me? Can't figure out how to put the photos in the body of the post, with text between. So far I have only mastered putting them in small pictures that resize when you click on them? If that makes sense, can anyone shoot me a simple guide how to do it?

I upload my pictures from my computer here http://postimage.org/ Click on browse, then select the photo you want to upload, click on it, then click on upload it. After it uploads, scroll down and right click on hotlink for forums (1). Copy the link and paste here. For another photo just scroll back up and click on upload another image.

Knives on the way to Hugh. Tracking number 9114 9011 8986 6832 3937 00

I didn't cut anything except paper, so it is same edge as when received. I'll post more later and hopefully pics too.

Just got these in. They look fantastic. Will post up some photos soon and also my thoughts.

Initial impression: These are great! I really really really like the UB.
