I've made one of these before, not too bad after the first few rows of getting it figured out. I think there's a howto on Instructables.
Thanks, as always, for the great info, Doc!
Thanks to a little headscratching on a trip this spring, I can usually ID a Hawthorn now, and Now I have a use or two for it. As for the rest, I'm taking notes![]()
again thanks for the great post and pic !!![]()
To clarify my post Doc; I envy the emptiness of your local outdoors areas, all the places around me are full of people pulling up in pickups, and running the radio while "fishing". Now, I am somewhat limiting what I consider "around me" to within an hours driving time because I already live out in the middle of nowhere, but the places that you would want to hike at or camp in are for the most part either full of people you don't want to be around, or have serious restrictions on practicing skills.
As far as the "weirdos" comment, I was referring to the BK3, it seems to be the weirdo of the bunch, the only BK over 5" in a plastic sheath, the only BK with a chisel grind, the only BK with a wire grabber, the only full production BK with serrations, and the list goes on. Most people (myself included) see it as everything except a bush tool at first.
Anyhow, great thread (as all of yours are).
Nice pictures. I wish I had a place like that near by
Thanks Doc C! Your posts are always informative and entertaining, if only we could get Tradewater to learn your ways. For some reason your link for the baldric sling doesn't work for me though.

Yo Mist......
Honey locust is freaking EVIL......Think razor wire with an attitude and apropensity to go right thru tractor tires and childrens feet.....Including this childs, when he was a child, a bunch.....EEEEVIL.....Great to plant all around your place if you are ABSOLUTELY FREAKING CERTAIN that the zombie apocolypse is nigh......Otherwise plant it and some muliflora rose and pyracanthus at your enemies house, late at night but, if you plant it in the dark you will be a pin cushion in pain.......EEEEEVIL........

Thanks for sharing. I love this stuff![]()
Great post Doc. I love those types of posts that some of you guys do. Someone a while back (couple yrs. maybe?) would post pics and include kind of a story, some were urban pics and some were rural. Thanks again for the walk.
Great thread Doc! I always look forward to you posts. You and one other northern friend, he lives in Nova Scotia, always drive me nuts with posts of wild rose hips. Here I only ever find them on old home places where nature has mostly reclaimed the land and the roses run wild. The Hawthorns like you have there is something I seldom see down this way. We have some trees with some shorter thorns that could be used as a needle in a pinch, and could probably be incorporated into a dead fall trap for added effectiveness, but I seldom see ones with thorns that long. Bryan Breeden was kind enough to send me some Honey Locust thorns to play with and I am tempted to plant a few on my land to have around, but friends who live in areas where they are abundant tell me I would regret it. I doubt that at my age, but my kids and grand kids mightI really like your baldric rig. I have been wanting to make a baldric rig for one of my larger knives and I really like this idea for it. I wish somebody could explain to me why people here can seem to pack out the empty containers of stuff they packed in. It has to be lighter on the way out since it's empty, yet I am continually finding empty bottles and bags.

I hate honey locust with a passion we have a lot of them in IL. Best bet for a perimeter fence would be osage (hedge fence) better for game to pass back and fourth too.
Doc how big of a hank of cord did you use? about 100' or so for that harness?
