The Value of BF

I write this to say that in the time I have participated here at BF I have learned a great deal from many of the posters here. The jury is still out as to wether BF has saved me money or cost me money. On the on hand I have avoided lots of products that I could see would not work for me while on the other hand I have made lots of purchases that worked out well.

BF has been good to me. I would encourage you to upgrade your membership. I posted here for years as a registered user but upgraded today because BF is worth the $10 for a basic membership.

Sure, sometimes you have to filter through some odd info on occasion and there will be people who irritate and just come to stir up the pot. If you use discernment and pay attention you will learn all sorts of useful stuff too.

Just one man's opinion.

BF has definately cost me money...because addictions are expensive. But I wouldn't change a thing. BF is absolutely one of the best bargains around:thumbup: Upgrade if you can...it's worth the few extra bucks.

Yep, after a few years of posting for free, I finally decided to pony up for a GOLD membership. It's important to remember that the forums don't run themselves, and I could chip in a bit to keep them running strong. I love this place!

There is a difference between things being tight and being tight about things. I don't care who you are out there, I will compare my "things are tight right now" with anyone's.
I get paid in US dollars, it has not been a good year. Mac

Welcome to membership!!! I'm with you, Pict. In fact, I get pretty loud about membership.

IF you're here just checking things out for two weeks...
IF you've been here a while but have only 100 posts...
IF you're in high school or college and have no cash...
IF you can't obtain a credit card or are on a fixed income...

FINE.

But other than that, pay the $10. That's ALL it is.

I get a little curious about guys with "registered user" after their names with 1,000+ post counts who have been here for three or more years.

And some of these folks are the loudest to complain about "server busy" messages! Enjoying the free ride?

If everyone with more than 300 posts--who aren't exempt from my proposed conditions above--put in at least $10, Spark would have a serious amount of cash to upgrade the hardware here, and provide a boatload of other services and options that he just can't afford to.

Maybe folks think this place is run for free, but it isn't free at all--There are NO ads. NO sponsors. NO deals. Spark has to outlay a serious amount of cash from his own pocket to keep us here.

And all he's asking for is $10.

So I salute you, Pict, and everyone else who has recently paid up. Guys like you ARE helping out here. Even if tough times...remember, it's tougher on Spark.

I hear 'ya. I was the poster child for that syndrome. The bottom line was that I just didn't think about it much. Mac

I don't think I even have 200 posts, but have pitched in my $20 or $25 or what ever it is to contribute to the forums.

All of the advice, experience, knowledge, etc... here have cost someone money and or time, and I have no problem paying for good information. Just my .02.

That's probably 50% of the folks out there, so you weren't alone.

The other half tell me "I didn't realize what it cost... I thought it was like $75 or something."

Nope. $10 for a basic, and it's one of the best deals out there.

The cost of a 1-day survival course is usually $100. I'd say I've gotten at least that much info here, probably more like 10 times that much info.

i love this place... i have definately learned a lot from this forum... each different member has something different to contribute... it's great...

this place has also cost me A LOT of $$$.... as it has already been said, addictions are expensive....:o

Has it saved you any money? Say, more than $10? I note your post count.

I agree with the spirit of this thread 100%. Finger wagging at others is not cool at all though.

True enough, and I will stop finger wagging. But I remain convinced that it's like showing up to a party empty-handed.

GREAT forum! I drift in and out but this is one of two forums I participate on and I never visit without learning a new trick or finding something to think on.

I figure Bladeforums cost me a lot less than the knife magazine subscriptions I quit shelling out for when I got to be a regular around here.

I've spent a ton of money due to this forum, but the knowledge coming out of this place is priceless. I'm in it for the long haul:)

Yep, I've spent a lot a money on blades as result of hanging out around here and loved every minute of it! Truth is, you get your moneys worth at WS&S... A while back, I asked for opinions on a good flashlight to buy, you could have written a thesis with the feedback.. Good place, good people....

i just upgraded to basic member but it didn't show.... hmmmm...

edit.. there we go.. i figured it out....

i never did do well with peer pressure...
