The Versatile #15

Yes, I like this. Thank you.

Thanks MrVandercar, I appreciate your compliment, if you've got em please post em ;).

That is quite the collection and a handsome one at that.

Thanks Addicted , same applies, if you have a variation I'd love to see pictures. one or twenty---the more the merrier :D.

A great, nicely displayed collection, Paul!
Very inspiring!

Also a nice assortment of #15s Toddwalla! Every one a beauty!

Thanks to both of you for a pleasant morning contemplation while I sip my coffee!

Charlie what you've done with the #15 is truly amazing---Thank you!!!

It's a specific subject. I think it's fine as a separate thread.

That is truly an impressive collection; and I had not realized how many variants GEC had squeezed out of that frame. Thanks!

Thanks Frank and I appreciate you allowing this thread to stand on it's own---much thanks .

Fantastic pictures and variations, thanks!

Thanks jon, your input is always appreciated :). In a response earlier to other posts I called you out (in a good way). I asked you because of your in depth information gathering, if other companies---Schrade, Camillus, Robeson, Remington any and all other great American companies, if any of them really utilized a pattern to this extent or further than what GEC has done to date with the #15 frame?

The same frame but options of multiple blade choices, frame tweaks such as the EZ open feature, bolster options, that kind of thing?

I honestly don't know if results would even be available for such a search? But if anyone will come up with an answer, my money's on you :D.

I have only two of the #15's - one with the Nifebrite acrylic covers and this one below in bone that I really enjoy carrying :

I'd enjoy carrying that also Derek, it's a great knife---I love the bone . I NEED one :p.

Paul great post and pics. My herd is also dominated by the 15 frame. Maybe I'll drag em all out for the group shot you requested. :D

Hey Derek that's a sweet knife you have there. ;)

Thanks Brian, I agree with the #15's domination. The frame totally amazes me and how truly versatile it is. Now, I'd love to see the group shot :)

Paul

AWESOME!
I just love the 15 as well Paul.an - brother you got it baaaaaad!!
I know the pain, ok, can I throw some pics up?...here goes....

Before...

After :-)

there is a story to this lol....

A real connection to Paul this photo-I lost this beautiful Single Bladed Ebony, Paul so very generously gave me his Stunning and hard to get Ebony Spear, and he in return was sent the HJ ...BOTH AWESOME KNIVES!!!

Sigh.....

Great read and great pics - thanks for sharing fellows :)

The #15 frame is a great one, indeed. I like the simple, timeless lines on this frame. It has actually a great size ... not too big and not too small

I like it that much, that I have now a two blade Charlow on its way and a spearpoint Boys Knife with a caplifter. Both are on their way over the Great Sea. I´m looking forward getting them :)

I was hoping you post here Duncan---I think we all "have it bad" my friend :p

Thank you for posting your pictures Duncan as I now have a new screen saver of the Spear Barlow/Harness Jack combo you posted  Such great knives the #15 is. I am amazed at all the things this frame can produce.

On a side note, I really like the Tomato!!! But that will be a thread of it's own ;).

Hope all is well with your and your family Duncan :)

Paul

Nice Andi, they are addictive aren't they?

Thanks for posting Andi, hope your family is well...

Paul

But wait...theres More........
Stan Holding my Red Bone Flat belly...

Robin Williams admiring the same knife when I went to his house for tea the other night...

In Glen Coe - Scottish Highlands...

Was there ever, or is there likely to ever be, a #15 with a clip main and (small/pen sized) sheepfoot secondary? That would be very versatile in itself.

Howdy Paul..
All is just great hete my friend - sorry for the flood of pics....

if you could ever get a "as close to perfect knife"...this would HAVE to be a contender...

I hope its ok to show The same knife in different shots Paul?... if not? please let me know and I will amend

Nice Andi, they are addictive aren't they?

Paul

Thanks Paul :) Yes, addictive is the correct word. The first one I ordered was "just for fun", I wanted to try the pattern and found out quickly that is a very useful type of knife - it kicked out my beloved #66 Serpentine Jack on top of the EDC rotation at least for a while.

Oh... and I really like the long pulls - they make a great appeal to the frameshape.

Great pics, everyone! Especially yours Duncan (& Paul of course as well)!

I loved the #15 pattern since it came out in the "what's happening" section of GEC's website. I got one of the first run of Boys' knife two bladed version (spear and pen), and sold it only because the opening dynamics were uncomfortable to say the least. Yet, the frame feels very comfortable in hand and the knife was wonderfully built.
Maybe the #15 is better than other frames...personally, I don't think of it that way, although it's a beautiful frame, it allows for many blade shapes, and in the most popular size range (according to our poll ;)). The main factor (personal opinion, of course) is that GEC has produced so many different versions (and even created an audience of "15 fans") therefore feeding the market with great knives. Personally (no offense to anyone), I give most of the credit to Charlie and his "Barlow wave", followed by the "Diamond fever" . I don't think it would have changed much if he had chosen to "invest" on the #66 frame (which is also quite popular, but has seen only two jack configuration - clip/pen and clip/punch as Charlie's SFO).
Paul, your collection is very nice indeed ;) I will wait and wish for a single bladed spear version of the RJ (dreaming is quite cheap :p)

Fausto

Fausto, I totally agree that's Charlies investment in the #15 took it places others wouldn't have imagined.

I also agree the #66 is a terrific frame as well---another of my favorites

Andi, I really like the bone on your Scout!!!

Duncan, fantastic pictures as usual and by the way you can NEVER post enough of your pictures--beautiful!!!

Paul

Oh. All of these have me hurting in a real way. If only I'd have come to the world of traditionals a season earlier my hunt would be much easier. Beautiful cutlery everyone, please to not relent.

A single clip blade Charlow is high on my "Must Get" list. Saw cut bone would be ideal, especially the tan.

Great thread idea Paul! The #15 is easily my favorite GEC pattern. I'll have to try to take some group shots later today.

Fantastic stuff guys. Before the 15 came on the scene, people were going wild on the 68 White Owl, which I consider a philosophically similar knife (mid-sized, two blade).

But the board has gone "radio silent" on the 68 frame.

I have to confess, that as much as I love the peanut, the number 15 is the knife that could tempt me to defect from the cult. It just feels soooo day-am good in the hand. Of course, I don't have the two blade, but I love the single blade ebony.
