Just Ordered My Spyderco Chokwe! I'm So Excited For It.
I Contemplated If It Was Really What I Wanted For A While.
I Looked At The Caly Series, The Other Sage Knives, The Natives, An Endura, A Stretch, Etc.
And I Just Kept Coming Back To The Chokwe, There's Just Something About It That Draws Me In.
Well, I Wasn't Sure I Would Like The Titanium And The Handle Shape.
Well, The Handle Shape Actually Appears Very Ergonomic In The Hand. I've Looked Into It. I Haven't Seen One Bad Review And I Got My First Ti Frame Lock - A Sage 2. Well I Fell In Love The The Sage 2 And The Ti Frame Lock And Decided That, Yes, The Chokwe Is The Knife For Me.

I Knew I Would Be Getting A New Knife, And Figured It Would Be The Chokwe, But Wasn't 100% Sure.

Well After Research, Opinions, Reviews, Looking At Every Resource, Getting The Cash In, And Drooling Over This Knife For Months.....

I Ordered It! So Now It's On It's Way To Me.. Or It'll Probably Ship In A Couple Of Days Because Of Free Super Saver Shipping On Amazon.

So Now, I Just Have The Week Long Wait For My New Chokwe And Will Definitely Post Here When I Get It. I Think This May Slow Down My Need For Knives For A Little While. I Was Just Stuck On Getting a New Knife, And Was Aiming For The Chokwe... So I'm Super Excited!!!

So What Do You Guys Think Of Yours? And What To Do While I Wait? Lol.

Me Too, But I Do Like Knowing It's Paid For And It's Coming To Me.
I Could Have Saved A Dollar By Ordering From One Of The Stores On Amazon, But Just Went With Amazon Itself Because At Least That Way I'm A Little More Sure That The Order Won't Get All Messed Up.

At Least It's Now Ordered And Stuff. I'm Really Happy And Excited About It.

But Yeah, The Waiting Is Going To Be Horrible, But It's Also Good Because It Continues To Build Up Excitement For The Arrival.
The More Days That Pass The More And More Excited You Get And When It's Finally In Your Hand You're Like Pretty Much Dancing While You're Opening It, And Then When You Have That Knife In Your Hand You're Pretty Close To Doing Full On Back Flips.

I know the feeling. Let me say this while you are waiting: I have or have tried a Sage 1, Para 2, Delica, Endura, Caly 3, Caly 3.5, Superleaf, Gayle Bradley, Pacific Salt, Dragonfly, Manix 2 Lightweight, Chaparral, Military, PPT, Stretch SS, Kershaw Skyline, Leek, SOG Flash II, and Benchmade Mini-Griptillian. Out of the 20 styles of knives that have passed through my hands, the Chokwe has won.

  • The flat blade shape is just right for food prep (I can cut through an apple with one pass, I can even slice up a watermelon. The Para 2 blade is too curved and short to do those things.)
  • The blade length is great. It has a 0.71 edge:closed length ratio which is EXCELLENT.
  • The pointy tip is just right for making small holes in things (like in a shoebox to pass through a rubber band and make a guitar for a school project. Other blades' tips have more steel behind the tip which means you end up with a much bigger hole than you wanted)
  • The framelock is very easy to open and close one-handed, and it exhibits no blade play (unlike most of my backlocks)
  • The handle is thin enough to fit comfortably in the front pocket of a pair of jeans
  • The handle is large enough to get all of my fingers on it, and it is comfortable with those holes giving your fingers a place to rest
  • It has pillar construction, flow-through handle so it is super easy to clean. Such a simple and elegant design, can you believe there are only 3 screws holding it together?
  • It has a good weight at 3.67 ounces. Not too heavy, not too light. The G-10 on one side gives you extra grip and reduces the weight
There is only one problem I had: I prefer deep carry clips like the Caly 3 & 3.5.

STR fixed that problem for me, and now I can't find anything else that beats the Chokwe.

Great post! The chokwe is one of the few knives that really blew me away. I have used mine quite a bit and its pretty beat up but still very smooth to open and close. The ONLY problem i had with mine out of the box was that the edge was pretty crappy and uneven so i spent some quality time with my sharpmaker and got her pretty sharp (The bevels were still uneven though) so after that i only stopped it on plain leather. I did that for four months until yesterday i decided out of boredom that i would re-profile it. It didn't take long at all and i got both bevels as even as i could get them freehand. The blade shape is also very easy to sharpen due to the wharn type edge.

Anyway that was i bit of a ramble but my chokwe that i left just razor sharp for four months is now screamin' sharp so I'm happy:)

What the hell, might as well add a pic or two.

*Drool* I Can't Wait!!!!
Any More Pics Are Appreciated.
Knife Porn Is Awesome Lol.

I Like Deep Carry Clips Too, But I Don't Mind Other Clips, As I Do Regularly EDC A Para2, A Manix 2, And A Persistence.

Today I Carried All Of My Wire Clip Knives Lol.

The Chokwe Just Seems Like A Perfect Knife And I Absolutely Can't Wait.
I'm So Excited!!!!!!!

Hi soulmate,
your words and thoughts could have
been mine in every way;)
My Chokwe is on its way, too.
Can`t wait to see it in the flesh.
Wanted a Para2 first, then decided
for the unique looking Chokwe. My
only fear is that it is a bit too sensitive
as I intend to use it not only for food
preparation but for EDC in the main.
Let`s wait, see and have fun with it:)

Hello there soulmate lol.
And I have the Para2 and I absolutely LOVE it.
But I decided that I HAD to have the Chokwe, and I believe it will take over completely as my EDC blade.
I think it will last through EVERYTHING I use a knife for. =]

Your soulmate has apparently Broken Your Shift Key. What Happened?

The Chowke is a very cool knife, and is on my short list!

I usually neurotically look over the knives in the Spyderco catalog... endlessly until it arrives. :D

What happened Bladechick? I thought you for sure you were going to pick up the one that was in the exchange recently.

Shaky - Lol People Keep Complaining About My Typing So I Thought I Would Try And Type "Normal" It's A Process.. Lol.
Benny - You Should Get It, And Then We Will Both Have It And Can Compare Thought.
MJF - I Was Going To But I Didn't Have The Money At The Exact Moment.

Of course, after you get your Chokwe, you'll be wondering if there is anything else out there that might be similar but just a tad better?

I'll End Up With A Sebenza Or Umnumzaan Or Both One Day. But For Now, I'm Happy With What I Have And Will Have.

This Is True, Which Is Why I'm Not In A Huge Rush To Get One.
I Use My Knives, So If I Have $100 - $150 Knives That Perform Excellently And There Is No Guarantee That I Will Absolutely Love The Sebenza At $400 More Than My $170 Sage 2 Or $125 Chokwe, I Don't See The Need To Rush It.

Congrats on the chokwe....Great knife.
IMO the best slicer over 3'' in the spyderco line.
Great fit&finish, well priced for s30v and Ti framelock...
I too want a zaan, the price is holding me back, but one day
I will order one because I love precision and quality..

I Do As Well, But I Have Excellent Fit And Finish And Quality In What I Have. Though I Will Have A Sebenza Or Umnum One Day.
But Right Now, I'm Perfectly Pleased With What I Have.

My Chokwe Shipped Today So It Should Be Here Early Next Week, And I'm Going To Be Gone All Weekend, So I Won't Be Here Waiting And Waiting. So I'm Super Excited Lol.

Never met ya but I'm excited for ya too. Strange how forums are eh?

I'm pretty convinced you won't be disappointed by the Chokwe. As nice as it looks, it feels even better and slices like a demon. It's a real performer not all that many people really know about outside the spyderco community. All the parts work as a whole and seem to come up with something like 1+1=3. The Stretch in ZDP ( or VG10) is that way too. It's ergonomics. That, along with a thin slicing blade, good steel, and a good lock. Everything works together in harmony. :)

Jeeze! Is this where we all start swaying back and forth and break out singing? :p
