One of the best lessons I have learned from frequenting this forum is that many of us (myself included) fall to the temptation to say that ESEE is superior to many other knives out there. Now this may be true, but I always see Jeff responding to these comments (I am sure it probably gets frustrating for him to have to police the forum) quenching the little fires started by us. I myself don't mean any harm by saying such things, but if let go, then as human beings we may let it get out of hand, and I am sure it would be taken the wrong way by a passerby. We should follow the example set by Jeff and not compare or bash other brands and sit comfortable in the knowledge that the ESEE knife in our hand is simply outstanding! :D
I have also learned that it is not necessarily the knife, but the user that makes the difference. Take for example Cody Lundin's $10 Mora, enough said...

I agree buddy, I think that a lot has to do with the cult like following that ESEE has, we are a devoted bunch and we defend this sacred ground that we tread on........jmo......

its the warranty that sets them apart for me.
I've read other companies warranties ...can't find one that stands up...tells me all I need to know about this line and the people behind it.

It's a huge bonus that all of 'em I own so far are just awesome to hold and use.

I appreciate the post. I've just learned to do my own thing in life, reagrdless of what others may do or say. I firmly believe that we live and die by our own merit, and to have to say negative things against anyone to make ourselves look better simply means we have a total lack of confidence in our own ability. I KNOW our knives are good. I KNOW our training is sound. I KNOW our warranty and customer service is top-notch, but that doesn't mean someone else's is not. I could CARE LESS what the "competition" does or what they may say since we do what we do because it's what we want to do and how we want to live. We're not trying to conform to the industry. On that same note, I could give the first shit whether anyone likes me personally or not, or whether they like our knives. We do what we do based on our experiences. Sometimes we go outside the box and do things or say things that many believe are not in the "spirit of the industry." But honestly speaking, I don't give a damn. The ONLY thing that's important to me is knowing that the end user got what we promised. If our knife does not compare to someone else's, or not "as good", then it's not because we lied to a customer and told them it was. As RYP said in another post, "under promise and over deliver." I have followed that rule most of my life and learned it's a damn good way to live. People get way to wound up on what someone else is doing or thinking. Until they put a gun to my head or knock on my door with a subpoena, none of it matters...it's all just words.

Straight-up poetry.
The most respectable statement I've read to date.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:;)

this oughta be at least a sticky...
oughta be on the homepage of the company
oughta be on the back of every darn badge card
and it oughta be included with every ESEE knife produced from now on!

that's just everything right there!

Jeff,

IMO, there's a very basic lesson in your post that all of our elected officials would do well to learn and practice...

Exactly. And not every knife fits every purpose. It's hard to beat the ESEE warranty, but if that $10 Mora breaks or is dropped off a cliff it only costs another $10 to replace. I like the looks and features of the H.E.S.T. folder, but I don't know if I would buy one. If my CRKT folder falls out of my pocket (unlikely, with the clip...) I can easily replace it. A $200 folder is much more of a big deal if it is lost or stolen.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are great knives and there are good knives, and there are a whole lot of "good enough" knives. Often the particular use will make more of a difference than how "good" the knife is. The fact that one knife may be better than another at a particular task does not make the other knife a bad knife. (There certainly are "bad" knives; look at the "Rambo vs. Izula" thread.) I'm sure that most of us have lots on knives, and many of them are probably not made by RAT/ESEE.

Perhaps we should work at remembering to say "I like the ESEE-x better than Brand-X" rather than "The ESEE-x is better than Brand-X." That way there may be less misunderstanding by newcomers or outsiders to this forum.

This thread is one of the BEST we've had on here for a good while. I agree that I LIKE ESEE/RAT knives better than most other Brands. That definitely doesn't mean that I don't have other brands, because I do, and I like some of them as much as my ESEEs However, I like ESEEs so much that I give them away as gifts and I give them away to people who simply notice and appreciate how nice they are while I am using them. I keep a couple of "extras" at home so that I can have this luxury without also being without one of my favorite heavy use knives. I also do this because I feel that Jeff, Mike, and the people at Rowen are top notch people and I feel really good about promoting their products. I do this for ALL of the complanies that treat me right. It's my way of supporting them and keeping what little capitalism is still around in this country alive.

MurphysLaw,
My gawd man!!!!! How can DC possibly function if honesty drives policy. They can't even let common sense drive policy.

I'm doing my best to go with what works regardless of brand. After my Dad had a major surgery less than 2 weeks ago I have really looked at alot of things differently.

And this just proves that honesty is the best way. Now one of the things that I've noticed with ESEE fans is that they aren't brand myopic, they like other companies and products (well more like we are like that, but this they is just because of the observational nature of what i'm saying) but the one they will lay their nuts in the fire is ESEE.
And all of that brings up a lot of good discussions and somehow teaches us all.

Plus as it's said, Jeff, Mike, RYP, the Shotgunners or anyone else that is connected to ESEE (if I forgot someone my apologies) never bash others as some other companies do.

I happened upon this brand from a Motorcycle forum. From the get go, I saw something that is not necessarily present from other makers. I see affordable, high quality knives that are made for their given purpose. Behind that stands people who know what they are doing and also stand behind what they produce. I started with a HEST, but will have many more ESEE products in the future. Thanks all.

Lates,

Connor

Even if ESEE didnt have the outstanding warranty they do, i would still proudly purchase, carry and use ESEE knives without a doubt. Your products are just that good.

Jeff,

Your quality and commitment to product stand on it's own.

Nuff said

I asked for input on these knives a few months back after joining the forum. I have been doing research on a really good "survival knife" and my search ended here. I joined this forum after going to the ESEE site and reading the warranty and watching several reviews online. I was surprised to see that they even direct you to someone else to buy their knives cheaper?(I respect this! I don't understand it, but respect it!). I only own three knives, and one of them was just given to me which became my first fixed blade and two folders I carry for Patrol. My only reason for wanting one of these knives to begin with is the fact I want to "Learn" and then teach my young son how to take care of himself in "The Wild"-(Zebra from Madagascar) and for his "Right of Passage" trial I have planned for him 10 years from now. I just yesterday was blessed to be able to finally afford to purchase my first ESEE knives. I (as soon as they arrive) am the new owner of an RC-4 and IZULA. I will do my part to use these and only these knives, BECAUSE I LIKE THEM!!! AND FOR THE WAY THE COMPANY IS!!!!!!!! Now let me clarify I will never just post this to kiss your @$$, guys! I don't have the money to buy every new knife out there and don't plan to. I made this purchase for life. I know this sounds corny, but the older I get I want things to mean something! Not just fly by night wants! When my Son and I go hiking I am going to take MY KNIFE! My Only Knife! The one that see's me through and the one I will pass down to my son! I however will be buying my son his own RC-4 as soon as I can afford it though. But he can always say "This Was My DADS Knife". Coming from someone who never had one that sounds cool to me. He however doesn't know about it and wont receive it until his right of passage. I have decided this will be "One of the Gifts" I will present him. I know I'm rambling so in closing I am glad to finally be part of what seems to be such a great company! Thanks for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure that I will pitch the knives to friends as I already have, but only for the facts stated. Can't wait to hold them.......

DRKNTE:

That's what this whole thing "knife thing" is about in our eyes. It's a legacy business. I still have the first Old Timer pocketknife my granddad gave me.
