THE way to dull a blade. ;)

Well I found out a new way to make a sharp knife feel like a butter knife in very little time.

I rented a insulation blower today to put some more R-value in my attic. You cannot put an entire bale of insulation into the blower at once - you need to cut it in half. So I took my Kabar Fighting knife (with convex edge) and put it to good use.

After ten bales - the edge felt like the spine! ;)

I think should be added to edge retention tests!

You know it....Nothing harder on an edge, that and cardboard!

Cutting fiberglass insulation sucks. It doesn't matter what steel you have, it just goes flat dull.

I have never tried it but Ragweed forge has a insulation knife, I saw it today while on his site. Kinda late now though:)

I did the blown in insulation thing a few times I used my cold steel large voyager it lasted about twenty bales it was only really sharp for the first 14 or so .I have used the voyager for fiberglass batt also and it lasted a while ,strangely my endura didn`t last as long on either .

Good point. I cut up some brand new carpet last year, and after 10 feet, my best knives were dull just like your's was... Oh well, learned something new. Back to utility knives...

i helped one of my buddys snow plow this year and he used his benchmade to open salt and calcium bags. by the next morning the whole edge was orange from the moisture and salt corotion. that dulled the knife in a hurry!

For my old Gerber, it was moose hair that would knock the edge off like it was never there.

For my Gerber, the resistance from the wind when I would closed the knife tended to dull the edge a little bit:foot:

Sounds like a problem with the heat-treat!

:D

Seriously... yeah it's true, fiberglass is tough on edges because, well, it's glass. When I insulated my shop last winter I went through a bunch of stanley utility-knife blades. Maybe CPM3V or INFI could stand up to a project like that, I dunno.
