The weekly ritual

Like quite a few here, I have about 10 to 15 items that roll in or out of the EDC rotation. My EDC, list/rotation consists of the following.
These items are carried every day
26” ASP
E2 Surefire Light
Swiss Army Multitool
TOPS Nightchaser – In neck sheath

This is the rotation list
Glock 25 + 2 spare mags
Stream Light rechargeable
BM 710
SpyderCo Endura, Full serrations
Emerson CQC 7
Chris Reeves Shadow III
Chris Reeve Sebbie
Busse Satin Jack
Busse BA 3
Kershaw Military Boot Knife
BM 5000 Auto
Severtech Auto
Survival Kit

Every Sunday evening I lay all the above out on the desk, sign on to BF watch the posts and check batteries in the light, consider my plans and travel arrangements for the week and choose the weekly rotation gear. I will oil the blades that were carried the previous week, look for rust, and sharpen or strop if needed. The gear for the coming week gets the same going over. The G-25 is shot twice a week so it gets a bore brush, wipe down and fresh lube(lightly).

Anybody else do the same. Am I missing anything on my EDC list? Any comments are welcome.

Have a good week all. Back to the grind.
:D :D :D

Glock 25 eh?

whats it like to have the forbidden Glock? us folks up here arent allowed to play with the .380 wonder...where south of the border are you?

South America,

The laws here are such that without collector status an individual cannot own large or "military" calibers.

I could get a 10mm but ammo becomes a problem. So a 12 ga., .380 and 7.62 Walther does the job.

wow I'm jealous..how are you concealed carry laws down there? I am planning on spending some time in June in S.A.

Unless you're a LEO, this seems a bit extreme, but we've all been there. About six months ago I started questioning my own routine, and I started to pare down my EDC.

I was usually wearing tradional blue jeans and a denim jacket with two big pockets in the inside lining. I passed a mirror one time and the front of the jacket looked like I was smuggling bricks. I had something jammed into each of my pants pockets, each of the denim jacket pockets, and flashlights, screwdrivers, pens and pencils, cough drops, bank deposit slips, eyeglasses, a spare Opinel and such jammed into the inside jacket pockets.

Sure, I was never caught without something, but most stuff was carried around and unused for several months.

Now I carry asthma medicine, keys complete with a Arc AAA Led, a Strider knife and a wallet, period. The 'survival' stuff goes into the console of my truck.

As a city boy, I doubt that I'll have to make and live in a lean-to eating ground squirrels and napping flint.

i carry 10 mags of 30 x 5.56 in my combat webbing
if i can figure out how to carry more without killing my back i will do it
better to be called stupid for carrying extra rounds than to run out of ammo in the middle of an engagement

but that's just me
ymmv :p

Some of the comments to the original list truly surprised me.

Really, so I would guess that what you are saying is that you have lived in a remote part of the third world for say, 2 or 3 years at a time by yourself. Without the support of a rifle company.

This comment does not really deserve a response, but I feel one is required. You may well be right, but I have never heard of someone that needed the extra ammo bitching because they had it. Sit down before you hurt yourself daddy; you really do not know what you are talking about here.

Actually, some of this stuff goes in a fanny pack. It also depends upon where I’ll be for the day or travel plans.
As far as the mags go, one in the pistol, one in the safe packer and one in the fanny pack. I may not always carry three mags. Rather depends on the where I will be. Around the house I keep the 31 rnd mags in, with the Fobus shoulder stock attached. My wife practices once a week with me, with and without the shoulder stock. I think if you check with others that live in the third world that this practice is not uncommon. Response by LEO’s is at best limited and will take some time. It is easy to get several days away from LEO’s or any communications except by satellite phones.
Lets see, for example. A month or so ago I had two banditos try to gain entry to my house, what they did not realize is what looks like a front door is really the security room. One of my security troops saw one guy lying against the wall on his stomach with a pistol behind a bush, the other knocked on the door supposedly to ask for information. The guards realizing that a home invasion was being attempted drew their pistols and answered the door. As the individual at the door was unarmed, but very surprised, and explained that he obviously had the wrong house. My security troops told the BG at the door that if the individual behind the bush came out with a pistol in sight they would fire. It all ended without blood shed. However, the LEO’s were not notified because this is not considered as a significant event here, nor would they have investigated. The neighbor’s son was robbed at gunpoint on his way to school as he closed the gate to their home at 8:30 am, and I live in good section of town.
Knives are carried for SD, I suppose that as a last ditch effort that they could certainly come into play, but things would have certainly gone south if the situation degrades to that point. I usually have two or three knives (the Sebbie for sure and a fixed blade 4 to 5”). The ASP is carried in a tri fold wallet that is like a large checkbook; against an unarmed attacker or knife, I personally will take the ASP every time over a bladed response.
The power will go out for 3 to 8 hours at a time blacking out two states. Flashlights are important, believe me. When the power goes so does the telephone, including cells.
Several folks judged my EDC list by what would be carried in the US, overseas the requirements change, as do the social and civil resources and infrastructure of governments.

This got kind of long, sorry!

It is a great pistol, although I am not overly fond of Glocks, they probably are the best hard use pistols around. The .380 in a G-17 sized weapon is like a squirt gun. Little to no recoil or muzzle flip. Double taps and multiple round drills are fast, but it is a fairly large pistol frame for the caliber. I also have the G-26 in the same caliber.

I really expected a ration of $$$$ for the .380
:D :D

.45acp,

I think you missed my point. Yes, extreme situations can happen to anyone at any time, but I don't think that an endless list of equipment is going to always be the answer.

Case in point. Even though I live near a college town, there are seedier areas. Everyone talks about various types of combat knives. In truth, if you knew you were going to get into trouble, a good shotgun would be the rule of the day. But here's my strategy, don't go there, then you won't need the shotgun.

My preparedness extends to other areas. I keep stuff in my truck. To make sure my truck is there when needed, I check the battery, keep at least 1/2 of a tank of gas and check my tires (while the gas pump is running.) Airplane guys call this "a walk around." I think it's a great idea.

I do take trips to remore areas of South Dakota. During these periods, I take more and different implements. The items I carry will most likely be different that the stuff you carry. If a careful assessment of conditions is made, that will always be true.

Don't roll your eyes, are you in the military on active duty? Otherwise carrying three mags to the local Wal Mart *does* seem excessive. Most police shootouts involve only a handful of shots fired. There are still police in NYC carrying revolvers, because 99% of the time they will never draw the weapon, and if they do, it will be over before 6 shots are fired in 99% of the cases.

Don't be mean to me, because if somehow there IS a need for you to be so heavilly armed 24/7, my posts are the very least of your concerns.

Ever heard of a mag not working right? Bad spring? Bent lip? Wouldn't it be nice to take cover and switch, in the event that you haven't already been shot, and you still need to defend yourself?
Anything that can fail, will fail at the worst time possible.
What someone else needs to feel prepared has no effect on me, I'm not going to insult them about it. Alot of people think I'm weird for carrying at least one folder and a mutli tool. "Why do you need all those knives?" I usually have more than they can see too :D

I am totally all for carrying more than one magazine..I never leave home without atleast 2 on my hip and one in the pistol..

that accounts for 46 rounds of ammo...probably never need it..but its nice knowing its there...

he lives in south america. we live in the usa. there's quite a large degree of separation in regards to safety and overall situation.
get all the facts before you jump to conclusions.

What could being active duty military have to do with it?
In addition, as you seem to be a little slow on the pick up, there is a Wal-Mart about 4000 miles north of here:footinmou. However, there is nice little shopping center about 7 hours by car in Bolivia.

I was not mean to you, just blunt. And I would have serious doubts if you had even the remotest credentials or judgment to access if the arms or security precautions taken by anyone, much less the areas I or others overseas live in. So please refer back to earlier post, Sit down before you hurt yourself. You are correct, you are not a problem.
If you think I am heavily armed, talk to some of the folks that work and live in Africa, Columbia or some of the really tough spots around the globe. I have worked almost exclusively in the third world for 5 years straight, it is not what the National Geographic or Wild Kingdom would have you believe. When the news talks about anti-American sentiment, it does not really convey the believe by many of the world’s poor that as an American we should just be giving money away, and if it can be stolen, robbed by whatever means, it is justified. When you realize that people are staring at a $200.00 USD watch on your arm and that they would kill you for it if they had half a chance, you will take a somewhat different perspective. People are killed for less everyday.

I do understand your point. I have also stopped at a gas station for service and found that my multi tool had more equipment on it than the mechanic had. I do not carry all the gear on the list every day; some of it is for rotation or specific areas. Like fishing, the fishing is absolutely fantastic here. The down side is that once on a river you are remote ASAP.
I do have a 12 ga.

Some of this is the price one pays for high profile positions overseas. It is just the way it is in some areas. Anyhow the point of this was not a pissing match over ammo or gear, you cannot have too much, unless you fall into a river with all of it on.

I'd just like to chime in and comment on a few things.

First, you can never have too much ammo.

Second, having spent just under 2 years in South America, I have to say it's a different kind of world. If you've never been there, don't judge it from what you've seen on TV. As .45acp said, there is a very real anti-American sentiment there. I was there during 9/11 and even then a few (though extremely few) said that the US deserved that and a whole lot more. And that was in a relatively nice section of South America (Uruguay).

.45acp, sounds like you're on the ball to me.

leroys_45,
I also watched 9/11 from here. Sat for hours in stunned silence with several other expats, not believing what was unfolding. Living overseas will certainly keep you on the ball, about the time you let your guard down something happens to jerk you up tight agian.

Celtech, The CCW laws in most of SA are restrictive, knives are all right, but be advised that it will depend on the local. Here it is agianst the law to wear a sheath knife, but you can walk down the street with a machete. Go figure. Where are you going?

Edited to include
If you are going into bank, you'll pass through a revolving door and metal detector. Bank and armored car robbery is a favorite pastime of the bandito gangs. The same for many business.

Well, we are gonna hop on down to Belize..then tour the coast of South America...I am really excited..I have heard some bad stuff about the coastal towns in Brazil...kinda worried that I cant carry..I dont even know if knives are allowed on the cruise
