The well equipped Ghurka - what would he be kitted out with?

Great postscript to N2S very informative answer:
"Do you know if any Gurkha soldier was ever recruited into the SAS or SBS?"

I think not, but I will ask around. I believe there has been one in the Parachute Regiment's Pathfinder Platoon recently, which is approaching the same league.

This reminds me of a British ex-SAS soldier in the unit I was in Northern Ireland with. He had been in the SAS in Borneo, and had not enjoyed going across the Indonesian border to pick up the bits (literally) several days after a successful Gurkha incursion. Heartless and chauvinist so-and-so that I must have been then, I rather liked the idea of Gurkhas doing the covert raiding and the SAS picking up the bits.

John,

Virtually every written text I have seen on the Gurkhas mentions significant cultural and linguistics hurdles. I believe for this reason, and becuase they were always indiginous troops, that they would not have been good candidates for direct incorporation into the SAS.

Although, close cooperative relationships like my previous example probably happened with some fequency. Wingate's Chindit operation of 1943 probably illustrated the risk of integrating British and Gurkha units too closely.
